How do you change your name without a credit rating?

I am an Australian citizen. A few years ago I decided to change my name; both my first name and my surname. To do so one of the documents I need to provide is a copy of my credit rating. I applied to get a copy from Experian, they sent me an email a week later saying they have no information about me in their records. I gave up and forgot about it for a few years.

A few months ago I stumbled across a post online where someone was saying that you need to get a credit card, wait a year, then creditors will be able to provide you with a credit rating. This explains my problem, I only have only used a pre-paid credit card before, it did not require me to verify my identity.

Is there any way for me to work around this problem without needing to wait a year? Is a copy of a recent email saying that creditors don't have information about me likely to be enough? Are there any other workarounds which may work? I am not willing to try any legally questionable methods. Applying to change my name costs about $120 so I don't want a mistake in my documents to risk failing the application.

There's probably a reddit page for that somewhere.

Reddit? You would really trust the oxygen thieves on that site for something like this?

Anyway I would probably go find a solicitor/lawyer for this one. Sometimes things can be easy but if you are going to have complications then time to get someone that knows. Get everything you have and your understanding of it in a row and go speak to them. It will cost but peace of mind for this sort of thing is nice to have.
There are full service firms but immigration, divorce, abuse cases and the like lawyers will probably be where I start for that one.

Alternatively do you need to change your name legally? Plenty of places like a job or a club will allow you to say register under one name for government records/taxes but call you another in day to day stuff.

Have you ever applied for anything which involves a credit check e.g. home internet, mobile phone plan, etc?

Are there other credit check agencies which operate down under?

@FAST6191

Would you prefer 4chan?

@FAST6191 There are some decent reddits, I'm just thinking gba's really not a great place to ask lol. I think the majority of the user base is rather young it's better to look in a place where the questions probably been asked before. ^^

I don't get why some people would want to change their names.

In my country you may change your name under certain circumstances, you don't need any credit rating, but your request would be manually evaluated by someone and most likely declined unless there's an extremely good reason for it. Doing it because you dislike your name would be denied right away.

Then again, you can't name your kids stupid names around here, it needs to be a proper portuguse name and it can't be ambiguous.

@Skelletonike just claim identity theft, and boom... instant name change. :)
