Went to the post office, COVID rant about idiots

Had to go to the post office today, it's probably 15 min or so from my place if you walk slowly. Buses aren't running here, so I walked down there making sure I was a couple meters from people (I wasn't gonna take a cab there and back to ship something I'm already taking a massive loss on when the nearest post office is within walking distance, something that cost almost $400 USD to buy I had to sell for $100 CAD just to get rid of it).

I passed five people jogging, they were individuals, not in a group (Canada isn't as locked down as the US, Ontario isn't too bad, we're really just making sure people aren't going out in large groups and staying away from park benches and gathering spots). It's a couple streets down (maybe like 5). These idiots are jogging and mouth breathing and panting while jogging/running. Jesus fucking Christ if you're going to insist on going for a run, wear a mask. If you insist on breathing out the mouth and panting, stop running and take a sec to catch your breath when nobody's around (yeah, I get that some people have asthma, or maybe a deviated septum or some sort of other health issues that affect their breathing). If you're going out for a bit so you're not cooped up all day, take a walk down the street, don't run around the block (or couple blocks) mouth breathing on everything (if you have to do it, cover your face for Christ sake), better yet do it early morning or late night when people . In my area, it was pretty windy and probably 4°C, but would've felt like 1 or 0. So it's a bit chilly but not actually cold cold. But during a pandemic, these guys ave to run around mouth breathing wearing a t-shirt and shorts in mid day when people who need to access essential services.

Also fuck you random guy that decided it was a good idea to take his kids for a bike ride down the street. I don't want to walk on the street because you're an idiot who can't tell little bastard Timmy and Sally to wait until after dinner, or just ride let them ride around on their own property.

Also fuck you people that are going to convenience stores just to buy a bag of chips and pop, or fucking scratch lottery tickets and doing them in the store. I'm not gonna pretend that I don't go to the store that's down the street from my house, but I keep a healthy distance and buy actual grocery stuff, not just a bag of chips or lottery tickets. I don't want to be stuck behind some fucktard who thinks they're gonna win big, on a fucking scratch ticket no less. Seriously these
people need to fuck off and do that dumb shit at like 3:00AM, not midday when people are trying to access essential services and buy necessities like food.

These are probably the same people that are still pawing at everything in the grocery stores, never washing their hands, and coughing on everything.

I'm just glad I live in a smallish city right now. I can only imagine how much worse Toronto is. Idiots like these are the reason it's spreading so quickly.

It's like 75% boomers doing it too. I don't mean people over 30, it's the older half of Gen X (the ones who are 50 years old) and actual baby boomers doing this shit. Fuck off you entitled cunts, you don't need to buy your cigarettes and do your scratch lottery tickets in the store open 24/7 at 1:00PM, you don't need to go for a run and breathe on everyone at 1:00PM. You don't need to be getting directly in front of people in the grocery stores and drug stores and pawing everything and panic buying everything, that's what's going to cause the shortages you're worried about.

I fully agree with this.

In my area, it was pretty windy and probably 4°C, but would've felt like 1 or 0. So it's a bit chilly but not actually cold cold.
As a Sydney person who rarely encounters temperatures below, say, 15°C even in winter (well, aside from when I open the refrigerator, anyway), this would be absolutely freezing to me. I wouldn't be able to tolerate it for long.
This is why I didn't exactly enjoy my family's trip to the Grand Canyon a decade or more ago; far too cold.

Kudos to you for being able to withstand it, and to say a windy 4°C day isn't all that cold. You, sir, have guts - or adaptations.

you don't need to buy your cigarettes and do your scratch lottery tickets in the store open 24/7 at 1:00PM
So true, that. I absolutely despise smoking and gambling, due to just how hazardous and wasteful these activities are. Back in 2016-2019 (when I had to actually go to uni, in the city), I hated the ever-present stench of cigarettes; sometimes it was so bad I actually felt sick. I would never want to be around smokers, and said smokers are literally committing drawn-out suicide through lung damage. Since they're going to die early anyways, through their own choices at that, I don't see the harm in giving each and every one of them a noose or a cyanide pill; these would at least result in less toxic smoke non-smokers are forced to breathe in.

As for lottery and gambling, that's a waste of money and time. Put that money into a bank, or - prior to late 2019, anyway - shares, or something. That would result in far more money over time than the goddamn lottery would. Do these easily-addicted and manipulated fools want to end up adding to the homeless population?

Unfortunately I work in gaming (by which I mean what governments call "gaming" which is gambling), so I'm used to seeing stupid crap like that. I'm also statistically 3x more likely to develop a gambling addiction because of working in that field.

All I can say for people who like it is don't gamble with money you can't afford to lose, and in the case of a casino, expect to lose. If the odds were in your favour casinos wouldn't be in business. Assuming you play skill based card games perfectly, house edge is still half a percent, and that's assuming perfect basic strategy by all players constantly.

In the province of Ontario, 50% off all money casinos bring in goes to the government. So at least here something good comes out of such a nasty habit.

The old men in there for lotto tickets are probably in there because it's their one sole bit of normalcy they can have, or they have compulsive addictions to the point where they don't care if there's a pandemic, what if that makes it easier to FINALLY get that jackpot????!

It doesn't make it sane, or take away from how stupid it is, but some people are always going to be selfish.

I have no problem with playing the general lottery, I do from time to time, and I work in that industry so I'm statistically more likely than the average person to develop a gambling problem, and I get that everybody has their addictions, I pretty much deal with these people every day (or did, temporarily laid off right now, COVID related closures).

These people holding up lines and getting in your way doing scratch tickets, they're like the people who whine when they lose a hand at a card game. They're ruining everybody else's time, and in this case potential risking the health of the people around them. What really bugs me is that they can just scratch them at home.

I'll never understand people who put real money into though. I'll put maybe $10 a month into tickets. If I were buying a bunch of scratch tickets I'd rather just play roulette.

You sound like the crotchety old man who doesn't fully understand corona yelling at clouds.

Those people ain't hurting anybody just cuz you read on reddit that they'll kill us all. Unless you actually live in a corona epicenter where contracting the virus is a real threat, people doing simple shit like buying things from a store that sells things they want to buy (shocking I know, what a concept) aren't hurting anybody.
As long as people respect social distancing, especially in Canada, who fucking cares. You sound unbearable to be around.

That's just it the people doing stuff like scratching lottery tickets in the store by the counter aren't respecting it. If you're also literally just buying smokes or lottery tickets, it's a dick move considering they're limiting the amount of people that can go into stores.

I'm not too worried about actually getting it myself, but I'd still like people to not be mouth breathing going out for non essentials so these preventative measures end as quickly as possible.
