Chromebooks Android tablets in disguise

I think I officially hate Google the Chrome OS and Chromebooks in general.

Since my birthday came around I have been browsing for a good laptop and after a bit of searching I went to my local Walmart and found a nice looking laptop that was running the Chrome OS, it was at the cheap(ish) price of $150 dollars and being the naive idiot that I was I decided that it would be a great little PC, I would be able to install Linux Mint via USB and have a nice compact device on which I could play Minecraft demo, Minetest, and use Blender 2.88, and also do some programming. And so I made my purchase and decided to install the Linux Mint OS and after finding that Google has a custom Bios that could not boot any OS via USB besides Chrome I installing the SeaBios it seems the track-pad and the keyboard do not function with Linux Mint and so I decided to give up and keep the Chrome OS it couldn't be that bad could It? well it turns out it could the first thing I tried is install Minetest off Google Play and it seems to be the Android version with the touch joy-pad meaning there is no W A S D to move and so it is completely unplayable and it seems to run a 20 FPS so yay a grand waste of $150

I am hoping so but I am unsure as I will need to remove seabios i am not yet ready to give up on it if I can install Galium OS (a Linux distro for Chromebooks) but I do not know. What I would like to do is replace the Bios of the PC with something Like the Lenovo's then I could boot what I wanted without hassle

Chromebooks are, in my opinion, shittier than an android tablet. You can't even download documents or videos on it to watch later. It's constantly connected to the internet or bust. Imho, they're a waste of the cheap, shitty plastic they're made out of.

Chromebooks are for people who naively think their Internet will always be working, and that one religious mom who goes crazy about a pair of shoes she got on clearance for a dollar less than shoes that are of much higher quality.

Seriously, the amount of people who just go with the off-brand versions of Lysol and other products in retail sometimes make me wonder about most of America's financial management skills. Especially when they get all emotional over something costing two or three dollars more than the label. I can understand if it's a $100 more, but about the amount of a vending machine drink, if even?

@Uiaad Yes Indeed I did of course I got the $150 one because I thought it would be good to buy a expensive laptop rather than one costing $100

What I mean is a serviceable* laptop NEW is gonna set you back at east $600, absolutely bare minimum $400 new. Did you expect a $150 device to compete ?

Chromebooks have their uses, if you are just using for light browsing, email, maybe light office work - nothing really more this is why the hardware is so woefully underpowered. The machine itself is meant to be nothing more than a gateway to the internet where web servers can do most of the "heavy lifting"

Android is different as it is mainly targeted at a touch based interface - both Chrome OS and Android share something in common ... they are based on a Linux Kernel . Yup Google makes 2 different Linux based Operating systems. The difference is they interface and the way they are intended to be used.

You really can't compare Chrome OS to Android because the uses and expectations of the system are completely different.

It's like walking on to a car lot and buying a $150 car, you don't expect that car to perform and last the same length of time as a new BMW on the other side of the lot. I mean both have 4 wheels and can be driven but the experience is worlds apart .

You have fallen into a trap that a lot of people have fallen in to over the years and I can understand your a bit PO'ed. But this should have taught you a good lesson: Do your research. And by research i mean go online, go to stores and see what they have in your price range, then get online and look at reviews. Don't just go on a forum and say what can i get for this.
Temper your expectations, for $150 your not gonna get a machine thats gonna run minecraft at 120FPS or run the latest AAA games
Don't give up and don't be pressured into thinking you have to spend that money right this second. Just because right now its only $150 doesn't mean you it will always be $150 tomorrow. Who knows maybe a neighbour will want their lawn mowed and will slip you $10 just keep squirreling it away and soon you will get enough to get what you want
Don't be afraid to change your mind. A laptop is all well and good if you absolutely NEED it be portable, but if you're just gonna be using it in your bedroom what does it matter ? £150 can go along way on facebook marketplace and ebay if your careful, again maybe not the best machine to start out with but that's the great thing about desktops they can be upgraded a lot easier and cheaply

* will last at least a couple of years without needing to upgrade the hardware in anyway ie RAM, hard drive

Varies depending on if you're just trying to get high or want to get high and have a nice flavorful experience doing so. Just wanna get high, doesn't matter, smoke that shit and cough the whole way

Still fighting with insurance to get my work done and my dentist decides to go on vacation like I expect him to be a slave at his trade how dare he vacation without my approval
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
Nice experience, you generally would want to consume within 6 months or so from package date, or make sure it's kept out of light and with a ~60% humidity regulation pack (like Boveda) in the container. That keeps it supple and not dried out and flavorful. Kept that way you're probably in best case scenario for like a year
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
"not dried out" yeah weed is dried when you smoke it but there's a difference between dry and dust lol

Stuff I'm vaping right now is 2 years old. It sucks. Some of the THC degrades into other less psychoactive cannabinoids at that age too so not even getting the full effect from it, mega lame lol.

I've heat pressed my own weed a few times with much lower cost heat presses and have had varying success with it. Some mediocre, some some of the best dabs I've had lol. But that's pressing flower, not hash even
