My Android Nightmare

I dont think i've done a real blog entry until now, but this seems worth sharing. First of all, im not big into the android modding scene, so its a miracle that i was able to root a verizon samsung galaxy s5 and install safe strap in the first place. (anyone with this phone knows what a bitch it is to open up). fast forward a couple years later and im tired of being stuck on 4.4.4. by the grace of god im blessed with another miracle and able to remove safestrap, unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery, and install lineage with gapps and supersu.

well, this morning the devil must have wanted to get his dick wet too. i looked at a notification for a lineage update i had been ignoring and thought "fuck it". went to install it and the device rebooted. two hours later the lineage bootlogo is still going. i restart the device, no boot at all. wtf? i boot into twrp, no backup. so i wipe the device and try to install the original rom still resting on my sd. "zip file corrupted, install failed".

ok.. redownload rom and other things, boot back up, again "zip file corrupted. At this point i seem to recall updating twrp at some point. so i go to flash an older version. reboot and "no boot.. blah blah.. some error". i dont even have a recovery at this point. just a smug green robot and a wall of doomed text.

so i fire up my laptop, put the cunt in download mode and start flashing every twrp version in existence. each one "zip file corrupted". but, i have recovery back. get a copy of adb, put the phone in adb mode, and i start sideloading lineage, gapps, su, etc.. i'm finally sighing out of relief because, as i type this, im looking at the "set up new device screen".

thanks for reading

I thought it was just me, but I think android might just be a pain in the ass platform.

Reinstall the stock ROM using Odin and re-do everything else.
A partition must've fucked up. Samsung devices are finicky as shit when it comes to custom ROMs.

@Darkyose not really. Samsung can suck my left nut since they suck at pretty much everything when it comes to making smartphones.
Apple on the other hand knows what its doing, and something either works or not and never in-between.

I've got it sorted now. I tried to find a stock rom for this phone, but no luck.

Really? For a Samsung phone its the easier, although pay attention to the baseband version of your phone.
If the version doesn't match, Odin won't install it and you might brick.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
