Favourite Bible verses

Hi,

I'm Christian and Trans, shocking huh? Every day I hear stories about conservative "Christians" who tell LGBTQ+ people they are bad people and idiots and the like. This is what I got to say about this issue. Like Jesus once said:

"And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye."

This can be found in "Matthew 7:3‭-‬5 KJV"
Readable here: https://bible.com/bible/1/mat.7.3-5.KJV

Brother can be substituted with neighbour, thus applying to everyone.
I recommend you to think about what you do when judging people, because that's against Christian moralities.

These are my some of my favourite Bible verses.

I wish y'all a nice rest of the day.

Kind regards,
Procyon

Leviticus 18:22

“‘You must not lie down with a male in the same way that you lie down with a woman.r It is a detestable act.

@Cubuss depending on the translation you read, that verse says "boy" rather than "man." It should also be noted that in proper context, Leviticus is just the law of the nomadic Hebrew people and has no real divine connection other than historical context

Edit: Also, why would THAT be your FAVORITE Bible verse?...

@Cubuss: first of all Leviticus were primarily laws for healthcare and the like. There's a book on that subject which explains why those laws got made. Second of all: read my blogpost.

@ThoD while I myself am agnostic, I can understand why many people find comfort in believing in a higher being, so I'd prefer if you didn't talk down on them unless they're giving you a really hard time. And even then, don't talk smack about their belief system, unless it's all kinds of flawed. If it's helping them get through the day, more power to them

@TotalInsanity4 I'm agnostic too, and I have to say that religion as a whole is all kinds of flawed. But that's all I'll say about that.

@TotalInsanity4 Not gonna turn the blog into any religious talk, don't want to derail it, so I'll keep it short. I couldn't care any less about what people believe, was just commenting on the "I recommend you to think about what you do when judging people, because that's against Christian moralities." the OP said, as Christian moralities don't matter to non-Christians, human moralities do though on top of making more sense...

I'd say no, personally. Given that you're trying to bring it up, I think we know what your views on it are, though

@MasterViper81 the book of Romans is attributed to the Apostle Paul, but due to "Paul's" conflicting instructions on many things was most likely written by many sources, all of which would have been scrambling to shape the brand new religion that was Christianity. Feel free to ponder on Paul's letters, if you want, but by no means should you use them as law for how to live your life

My "excuse" is read it in the proper historical context, and pay attention to the message of Jesus rather than nitpicking over the exact wording of his followers

I have to agree with MasterViper - once you start picking and choosing from the Bible it really makes you question if you can say anything in it has meaning - and then question if the religion as a whole had any eternal meaning whatsoever.

@x65943 my general rule when looking critically at the Bible is that if it was attributed to Jesus, it's most likely about as accurate as it's going to get. If it came after Jesus died, it starts to get kind of fuzzy because everything written then was up to the interpretation of the people attempting to build up the Christian church; this may or may not be the actual intent of Jesus/God (in the case of Christianity, that is)
Side note: I just Googled "Paul Biblical contradictions" and there's literally an entire WEBPAGE dedicated to listing the various times that text attributed to Paul directly contradicts text attributed to Jesus. So yeah. Read critically and with a study Bible if at all possible, kids

In terms of the Old Testament, things get even fuzzier in terms of divinity, but we at the very least know that accuracy is spot on, due to the lack of variance between the Dead Sea scrolls and modern translations; this indicates that the ancient Hebrew people did a very good job of transcribing works exactly (at least, once they were written down and condensed initially). In this sense, one can read the Old Testament and be fairly confident that everything in it either happened similarly to the way it's documented, or, there was a general consensus among the religious community of the time that something similar to what is documented happened (hence, how we get the creation mythos, which is more or less what everyone believed to be true at the time, but is written incredibly poetically rather than archivally, and contradicts itself a few times, most likely due to the fact that it was compiled from multiple sources telling a similar story)
