Hearing

Have you ever thought of damaging your ears to get a hearing aid? I mean, the thought of being able to control how much you hear just sounds so cool and would be very useful in my life. There is so many people I need to sit next to in class who make so many little annoying noises which is extremely difficult to ignore

I like the idea of it, but I personally can't live without my earbuds. They're glued to my head at almost all times. I mean if I got used to headphones I'd have the nice little volume adjustment on the side, but earbudss

Stand has the ability to control the intensity of sounds, and can mimic almost perfectly any sound. However, the stand can only remember three sounds at a time.

I have a friend who has hearing issues who uses bone conduction headphones to listen to music. They're not really like earbuds but I still thought that they might be worth a mention.

You can get something to improve your hearing even without a hearing aid. I know they exist for hunting, but you can use them just in general. The garbage GM at the store I work at uses one to spy on people.

Having crap hearing really does suck (being able to lip read is cool and it was always going to happen so I am not overly bothered about that but I would like to not have to look at people when they are speaking to me where there is even the smallest amount of background noise) and right now your dreams of cyborg hearing are not quite reality. Even fancy ones which connect to bluetooth and a bit pricey for what they are.

Blocking out sounds is easy -- find whatever ear plugs audio engineers and musicians are using these days and put them in. You will still be able to hear things which matter but the really low end will probably be cut off and thus sort your issue. I found it easier to learn to filter out the irrelevant sounds though.

I think as technolgy incrases over time, there will be more and more solutions that don't involve permanently damaging yourself. As the population density increases with major cities becoming overpopulated, the market increases for personal and portable privacy. The bigger the market, the more companies that want to make money off of it, and the more solutions that people can choose from.

So far I've only really seen a pair of wireless earbuds that double as hearing aids to mix different volumes. Sadly, they cost $300, and I don't have that kind of money to test them.

@FAST6191 with Cochlear implant, so basically is possible to be a cyborg, however not in a sense that imagination would lead you to believe. However most people will not qualify for the implant as they have to be a candidate for it. Also some Cochlear implants do have blue tooth capability, but not all of them do.
EDIT: oops you said not quite a reality, then I guess you're right after all.
@johnbus, hearing aids for $300? That is pretty cheap for a hearing aid. Why a good quality hearing aid can cost upward to $2500 or more and that is just for one. Cochlear implantation however can cost $100K or more.

Being a person who can't hear enough without a hearing aid, let me just say having to wear it around is not always fun. Yes, the little things that you mentioned are definitely pros but, the cons outweigh it. Just to keep things short, try to avoid a hearing aid if you can.

What you just typed out is literally the dumbest thing I've seen this week.
Purposely deafening yourself so you can sit in class without getting annoyed by twats...

You do know that in a few years you'll never see them again do you?
And then you'll be left with being deaf.

Also what Bennyman said.
You also make yourself less desirable for females.
If you're going that route, get falsies whilst you're at it and shave your hair into a horseshoe shape.

Maybe you suffer from Misophonia ?
Some people can't support hearing body's sound either (nail clipping, sniffing, scratching, mouth sound, eating, burping, snoring, etc.)

there's no real solution, get used to it, or earplug, or live alone.
Don't go up to hurting yourself. try to find something which let you filter what you want (no idea if it exists yet, someone should invent it, a real time frequency or volume filtering device). earplug which let you hear only sound with enough volume, someone talking but not someone's annoying and parasite sound around you.

Maybe you could go and ask hearing professional (the one old people consult to hear better!). asking to hear less is probably rare, but there are maybe existing solutions.

If your internet speeds are fast enough. Streaming 4k takes alot. I used to only have 20mb sec, and 4k struggled. Now I have 300mb sec and 4k plays fine.
