I have this jacket, and I wear it out in public. Sounds like a normal jacket, right? Well my jacket - it's a real, unique, authentic Chinese police jacket.
It's a great conversation starter. Sometimes people will notice the big badge and go; "Hey! Is that Korean(or Japanese(or Chinese) police?"
And I'm like, yeah! It's a real(and I really emphasize the "real") Chinese police jacket! I show them the buttons with custom stamps and the fabric inside with the Chinese communist logo.
They're like "Cool."

"Are you a narc?"
Yeah, they ask me this often. The people I hang around sometimes tease me about it but I know they find the jacket awesome.
I get lots of compliments, tell me I suit the jacket. And that it's a nice jacket in the first place.

I don't know too much about the history. People tend to ask me where I got it once I confirm the foreign text's race.
I tell them my father, who's friends with a Chinese man at work has a sister and I guess she was a police?
