Oh, I've done this step. It's the next step that I have no idea where to start with - compiling a voice script from the files. No matter whether I try jp.ao or cn.ao, it fails and generates an error message telling me there's no text in any file like : c0000, 3472,168,00006: No text in this line」
c0000, 3472,168,00006: No text in this line」。
c0100, 2258,38,00012: No text in this line」。
c0100, 2585,52,00009: No text in this line」。
c0100, 2617,54,00009: No text in this line」。
.(and so on for every file)

This is probably because the whole PSP into PC script works off some weird logic, but I'm not sure if I'm up to it if I'll need to rewrite a lot of a python program (I don't currently know python, only java and lua).
Did you not do
--cp=ms932 ?

Currently I've just been trying the batch files, which have that included. I suspected the issue might have been that it explicity states "SetCodePage("gbk")" in 00sys.bin.py for this, but changing that to ms932 didn't make a difference (for reference, the normal ao script does compile for me with the .bat file).

You didn't follow instructions in README.md ?

Guys, can u help me with this? Even though i resample all the .ogg Ao Evo voice to 44100Hz like the ZeroAoVoice github guide says, i can't seem to get it work on PPSSPP, only certain dialouge triggered the voices, unlike the PC version! Does anyone know why?
#Edit: AO EVO voices

Why not just use the PC version?

HD complete textures for Sora FC+SC+3rd PPSSPP and 3rd English PSP won't be coming for a while. Without a script decompiler for FC+SC+3rd PSP, there's not much I can do.

HD complete textures for Zero+Ao PPSSPP might be coming in 4 days if I can get my modified script to iterate through all maps, all CGs, and all character textures for PPSSPP texture dumping.

Can't wait, was planning on starting ao in the next couple of weeks
I recommend downloading the Ao PC version from that cat torrent site and applying the patch from the linked DDL, if you can, since it is most up-to-date.
I'm providing the texture pack for those cases where someone is not on x86 platform but has a PPSSPP port.
There's also a method to transfer savedata between Ao PC and Ao PSP, so it's easy to play at home on the big screen, or play on the go on the small screen.

I want to get the original ao no kiseki bgm into the pc version. How do i go about it? I've converted the psp version soundtrack to .ogg and the music is playing, but suddenly some instrument starts playing during a song. Seems like the game playing multiple sounds during a track?

You mean a 60 fps patch? That and I've been having trouble getting a gamepad working which is why I was leaning towards the psp version with the 60 fps cheat + textures

The original Ao no Kiseki BGM is in the PC version already.
Do you mean the Evo Ao no Kiseki BGM? In that case, you need to replace the music files.

InputMapper or JoyToKey might help in that case?

Hmm.. i swear the music was more instrumental in the pc version. It also has about 150 tracks in bgm folder whereas the psp game has about 112 or so.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
