Yeah, only the eShop is restricted on 5.5.1. While 5.5.2 was being downloaded, I could still access Miiverse and the Internet Browser, but I didn't try any games as I just wanted to just install it straight away. I've only updated my main, not my spare.

Would anyone know why I my FTP Client (FileZilla) won't list any files in any of the root folder directories when I use ftpiiu_anywhere? Like, the main root directories show, but I can't access any thing else other than the SD card contents.

I'm having the same issue. I use Mocha and the ftp client only shows the SD card, nothing else.

So, why even mention that spoofing can enable online games if you can already play just fine on 5.5.1?
Idk^^ I just wondered what spoofing the firmware could help with but I'm able to play Splatoon online with 5.5.1 so no reason for me to install it (have downloaded it tho if I need it in the future xD)^^

I think somebody else had this idea before, but rather than spoofing the version number isn't it possible to modify the 5.5.1 browser (v241) to have the same version number as the 5.5.2 browser (v258)? Then afterwards you should be able to perform a normal system update without losing the browser exploit.

So can I just update my system from Nintendo if I already have Haxchi installed or should I use this way?
If you have Haxchi or CBHC, then you can update to 5.5.2 and still have access to CFW. However, there is no reason to update to 5.5.2, and I personally don't recommend it.

I don't have either one installed on my system. I am on 5.5.1U with the DNS blocking updates should I just keep using that or what should I install? I have only been using the web browser on it.

If you are not using Haxchi/CBHC and don't plan on installing them, then you should definitely stay on 5.5.1 and block updates. If you update to 5.5.2 without installing Haxchi/CBHC, you will be unable to enter the Homebrew Launcher because you will no longer have access to browserhax.

How does that work though? Do you block the servers or use the DNS method? And how does it not update the system update?
If one is able to use NNU Patcher to download game updates, then updates are not being blocked with the DNS method. The DNS method of blocking updates also blocks the eShop.

What do you suggest then? Some say NNU Patcher, others say JNUS download? Yet the other day some people reported that installing that didn't make it 1.1.7.

The safest option is to install eShop titles and updates using Wii U USB Helper instead of using the actual eShop. I also recommend that people block updates using the DNS method. As an extra safeguard, I recommend editing one's NAND to block updates as well. One could also block update URL's in the router settings, but that might interfere with other devices on the same network, such as the 3DS or Switch.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze

same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.
  • Veho @ Veho:
There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.
