not trying to be a dick here but if you're willing to spend the money on importing games, maybe you should import a 3ds from that region as well instead of relying on people to hack the 3ds so you can play games you bought

just my $0.02

That would mean supporting the bullshit idea of region locking, which isn't an acceptable practice by console makers.

you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about

if you knew how to read, you would know there is kernel access

so where exactly is the proof of this? granted, i've been through ssspwn/ninjahax/whatever top to bottom and know there is no kernel access, but i still want to hear this because i'm sure it will be humorous.

Personally I don't think leaking anything damages GovanifY's credibility, but I do feel that since he's going against what Smea has said, it's on him to provide proof he's right, rather than for Smea to prove him wrong.

With that said, I'm extremely curious to see how Smea will achieve region-free without kernel access, because I can't see how it can be done while still disallowing ROM loading.

so dont import games, importing games to a region its not playable in is also supporting the bullshit idea of region locking, if you want to get rid of region locking, stop buying games from different regions other than your own

although its easier to buy the game then bitch about how you can't play it on your console

Haven't followed his activities, but if he did, then I'm just as curious as you.

Ahh, here we are:

Of course, this was back in August, and a lot can change in a couple of months, but he was confident at one point that he could allow for region free games.
Whether or not that means ninjhax originally allowed for kernel access and Smea has since taken the decision to intentionally gimp it is a whole other kettle of fish.

Region-free would mean arm9 kernel access, so I'm genuinely curious of how he plans to do that with this exploit. Ya know, the one that doesn't use a kernel exploit. ;)

That's not protesting region locking, it's playing by Nintendo's rules.

it's funny how all the people who continue to state that kernel access is possible are not devs and don't budge even though people who actually understand how the 3ds works tell them it's not possible.
really, stop being so delusional and face reality. it's surely not the end of the world if ninjhax won't make you run backups.

basically, I'm bumping this post: http://gbatemp.net/threads/speculation-yes-ssspwn-allows-kernel-access.374631/page-11#post-5173552

edit: btw it's 3:30 AM over here, I'm going to sleep. good thread-lock everyone!

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
