Wanna set up emulators for nintendo 64 snes and nes games. How do I set up homebrew( not home brew browser) on the wii u and I want to know is :
1.is it safe?
2.is there any way I could permently damage my wii u?
3.how do I do it with the the least chance of damaging my wii u?
4.what is bricking?
5.would I have to cancel automatic updates from nintendo and acces to Eshop to prevent bricking legal woes etc.?
6.Also would a software chip from the normal wii containing wii isos require hombrew to work? Would that be safe?

So you wanna know about the vWii. Easy enough
1) Yes, as long as you don't do anything stupid with custom IOSes.
2) Only the vWii, it's completely sandboxed, if you bricked it then the normal Wii U mode would work fine, though any updates would fail.
3) Just run Smash Stack and install the homebrew channel
4) Basically the vWii will refuse to load correctly, either it'll black screen or it won't even load at all. It's unusable, useless, just like an actual "brick".
5) It has nothing to do with eShop/legal stuff. Yes your warranty is void should you ever need to send it in but other then that, no.
6) No. "Software chip" == modchip, of which there are none of for the Wii U, and it has nothing to do with ISO loading or homebrew anyways. Once you run Smash Stack and get the channel installed you can run any homebrew just like on the Wii (to an extent, like I said, anything that modifies the system is not a good idea, like installing cIOSes to run backups with USB loaders and such, it's possible but if you mess up you're in trouble)

FIRST THING I WOULD DO: http://gbatemp.net/threads/dump-mii-nand-a-bootmii-format-nand-bin-nand-dumper-for-vwii-wii.358977/ Back up your NAND so if you need to restore an IOS you have the files on hand.

EDIT: I'll let someone else explain about vWii specific homebrew, I'm not too sure of it myself.

7.So if I run smash stack and install hombrew channel and there should be no trouble with it at all?
8.Also could I run wii/GameCube Isos on it as well(is there an emulator I need to download for either or can I just use isos for both on an sd card

7) Nope, shouldn't have any problems, other then getting the actual Smash Stack to run (have to play around with it a bit like deleting the custom stages beforehand and such)
8) For Gamecube, I'd recommend Nintendont. You don't need to modify anything to run it, either. For Wii Backups, you'd have to install cIOSes (249 and 250) like on a normal Wii, you can find more info https://gbatemp.net/threads/simple-guide-to-install-cios-on-vwii-backup-nand-and-keys.339890/ and https://gbatemp.net/threads/basic-dos-and-do-nots-of-vwii-modding.339337/
Once the cIOSes are installed then it's just a matter of running a USB loader or whatever you prefer (I've always used Neogamma).

As NWPlayer said. Just make sure you read up properly and make sure you're using a vwii cIOS and not one for a normal wii, it could brick your vWii.

Again, just read up and make sure you fully understand all of the procedures. It isn't very hard to do and it doesn't take a technical expert, it just needs to be done in a proper sequence to be done without problem.

9.so once the homeboys is set up and the wii emulator properly would this affect the wii u in any negative way asides from voiding warrenty as Ive read people having there memory reduced from 32gb to 512 mb. I already have some add content on wii that was bought from eshop would that be affected at all again if done correctly just want to clarify

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
