just a blind shot: try Graphics>Hacks>Texture Caches>Safe
Thank you but I had tried this one already (Earth Seeker needed to have texture cache on "safe" to work, so I turned to this setting first) : I'm glad it wasn't that because, as far as I'm concerned, playing the game with "safe" textures drops the FPS dramatically.

But I found the culprit ! You have to uncheck "EFB Copies to Texture Only"! I'll have to make sure I write it down in the "Readme" when the patch is released!

Credits are done, and I'm planning on starting beta testing for the "story" part this week. I'll contact @Kaiser_Gummi (who's taking care of the "net" part) so we can exchange our files, and see if some resources still need to be translated.

@Lazlo52 , if your offer is still on the table, I'd be grateful to have you as a beta tester.

If someone else wants to join us, please let me know and we'll proceed as I did for "Takt": I'll PM you, and we'll communicate on a daily basis about typos, bugs, wrong or confusing translation, etc.

Everything that needs to be polished before the patch is published.

But please be aware I'll need you to play the game intensively in the next month or so.

Looking forward for your "application" :D

Have a nice evening.

Beta tests will start tomorrow (you're welcome to join), so I'll probably be silent here for a few weeks.

But before I go, let me share a little glimpse of the "Readme" file that will come with the patch when it's released.

Hope it will meet your expectation, I always have fun creating these.

Finally, I would be able to play the game (and others you have kindly translated). @Brand Newman, many thanks for your efforts on bringing Japanese titles to the Western World!

How do determine projects to work on? Do you translate exclusively Nintendo titles?

Hello @ArgonUK , and thank you for your message.

To answer your questions, my choice is usually based on personal interest (I have owned all the retail discs of the games I've translated so far), and the feasibility of making a patch : you see, each game is different, and before Earth Seeker I had never hacked nor have knowledge of doing so whatsoever.

That is the reason I usually don't communicate about a new translation until I'm positive I've overcome enough difficulties to say "I can do it", which I usually owe to people who have studied the Wii games structure before me.

While you should never say never, I don't plan on translating for other systems for the time being : there's still enough interesting Japanese exclusives for one of my favorite consoles to keep me occupied for a while!

Anyway, I hope you'll enjoy my work. The beta testing of Reginleiv is in progress but it can still take some times before it is released, so have fun playing my previous translations in the meantime! ;)

Thank you very much for your message, and for offering your help as a beta tester.

We're already a group of four and are quite advanced in the story, so I think we don't need any extra tester, but I'm grateful to you, and to everyone offering to spend their free time helping me polishing the patch.

Maybe when it comes to the "Online Mode"? I'll keep you all informed anyway.

Have a nice day. :)

I thought about it for a while and even had ordered the game, but then I found out you can buy it in English on Steam and PS4 for the same price. So I gave up on the idea and cancelled my order.
I tried the game. It's not for everybody and I have the feeling the controls must be better on Wii (the pc version uses the game pad since it's probably a straight port of the PS4, but the game would have benefited of mouse controls).
That being said the story and idea are enticing, and the intro music is top notch!

Oh i vouch for that. This game rly looks interesting like Brand said + its another of the few Wii classic controller supported games, or maybe games from other platforms like the Gamecube idk, but hey gotta let the hard workers have their well deserved rest before anything haha

Ah too bad, as the guy above said, the game would be better with the Wii controls, plus I also believe the game looks incredible, it would be nice to have a translation for the Wii version. If you ever change your mind, we'll be very glad!

PS: I also would like to thank you for making this effort in translating Japan-Only Wii games, since it's my favourite console and there is a lot of good games that never came to the west. You are one of the reasons the Wii community is one of the best out there! Thank you very much!

At the end of the day, Brand should pick what he is interested in the most. That's what will allow him to make it through to the end of the translation (and hopefully not get burned out). However, personally, I'd pick one of these:
  1. A game that has no translation in any form, ex: Ougon no Kizuna, Bomberman Blast retail, Line Attack Heroes, or Dragon Quest X offline portion
  2. A game with Wii specific content or Japanese specific content, ex: Sengoku Basara 3 Utage or Tales of Graces
---

I just registered to say thank you so much for every translation you've work on Brand. Earth Seeker, Ikenie, Takt, and now Zangeki. So many great titles! Really appreciate your hard work

Ah yeah, Ougon no Kizuna is another title I would like to have a translation. Even more because I've played it a little bit and didn't know what to do because I can't read japanese =P

Thank you very much for your message.

I was curious, what do Sengoku and Tales have of Wii specific content, except for the use of the pointer maybe? Is there any reason people should favor the Wii version? I have the Japanese "Tales" disc but from what I read, it's missing an extra quest that was added when the game got translated on PC and PS3, am I wrong?

Sorry, I was thinking Sengoku was Wii-only in the west like Samurai Warriors 3. But it actually got a release on the PS3 too. Utage is an expansion that was release only in Japan (for both Wii and PS3).

Tales of Graces released on PS3 in the West as Tales of Graces F. It had an additional prologue story and maybe some additional tweaks? The Wii version does have DS connectivity and I believe some very minor additional content differences.

I have some slight bias as I tend to prefer Wii multiplatform games over others because playing on Dolphin has many QOL features for 3d games (stereoscopic 3d, texture replacement, VR, etc).

Probably not worth bothering with those games, when there are many other Wii-only games that still need a translation. I just wanted to mention them for completion sake! :)

There is a spanish translation for tales of graces for the Wii is almost 85% translated, and the connection with DS is a mini game similar to pokemon mystery dungeon.

I'm happy for all the love the Wii gets in this thread! Ougon no Kizuna was mentioned before and having a fan translation for that game would indeed be awesome.

Looks like Zangeki is progressing smoothly and that Instruction Booklet cover turned out really good. Great work!

I hope the translation goes well.

Kind of unrelated, but I would really like to play E.X. Troopers on PS3 in English, which is spinoff from the Lost Planet. This is a AAA game that was never released in the West. The tools exist to work with the game files. If you ever consider translating titles on other systems, please consider PS3 & 3DS versions of the E.X. Troopers.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
