Hacking RegionHax - How to get RegionFree on WiiU

Eur games on my USA console work fine for me... except Mario Kart 8 EUR (freezes at splash screen with an awful sound), Paper Mario Color Splash (gives me an error screen that I don't remember the numbers now) and Toad Treasure Hunter (also hangs on splash screen but no awful sound)

I don't know about MK8 and Paper Mario, but Captain Toad Treasure Tracker requires you to rename certain folders for the EUR version to work on USA consoles.
Whenever you're installing out-of-region games, you can refer to the Loadiine compatibility list to know if you need to change anything with the games using WUPclient.

for USA console, rename all the folder starting with EU to US in /data/content/LocalizedData

It should download to the same directory as wupclient.py, usually.

i just used a fork of wupclient that lets me do things without using commands, thanks though.

Man, i'm really greatfull for the hint... i'll start searching inside the titles folders and see if they use the same structure as toad treasure hunter... and i'll also visit the loadiine compability website...

Do you have to patched sysnand on boot up for this to work every time? Or once this is done, I can install via Brazilian method an Japan region fame on euro Wii u and it will start without system patches or redNand?

Only if you want to run out of region games from unhacked bootup without loading a fw.img first.

I'm pretty sure the latest version of sig patcher and iosuhax both remove the region protection, making this modification obsolete

Not unless you wanna play brazillian-method installed titles without booting iosuhax. Then it's still useful.

I read the OP but I'm sort of lost. What's rednand and sysnand? I've only been using Loadiine and haven't been checking on hacks since.

Any noob friendly guide? Can this method be detected and therefore get me banned?

NAND is basically the storage partition of your Wii U that stores the Operating System (OS) like for example Windows on a PC. SysNAND is the Wii U OS and RedNAND (which stands for Redirected NAND) is a copy of the Wii U OS ran off a SD card. PM me and I'll link you a noob friendly guide

reversing the method does indeed work but you're then going to have to create a new user to get back the disc & wii icon.

Hey, So I recently did this and it all worked great, i got Taiko no Tatsujin running on my NA Wii U perfectly. I also tried to get Japanese SMG Wii VC, and it got onto the menu, and the little splashscreen works, but as soon as it boots into vWii mode it blackscreens. I assume this is because the vWii isnt region free, is there a way to fix this? Thanks!

It installs and executes, but I don't understand the language, so I can't read the messages. I would not expect it to work properly though, because Nintendo should only be willing to sell you the subscriptions that are available to your console's actual region (which the region-free hacks don't change.)
