Hardware PS3 Slim, what are the blue/red light on the bottom left of the disc slot indicate?

Curious as to what the lights indicate on the far left of the power/eject area of the 2xxx slims where it diffuses through the clear plastic. My google search only finds a few mention and color modification of this.
