How does that make sense though if i sold someone my Switch and they bought BOTW...had no internet access then they wouldn't be able to play the game???

Shitty forceful system, yes. Also: What happens when the update servers are gone one day? That's why we definitely need to hack the system. To protect our rights to play the software.

Is there any advantage on vanilla BotW (1.0) like for speedrunning or something?

If you speedrun a game, you want to make sure that the version is stable, so that all people speedrunning the game can compare their times under the same conditions.

Glitches are another point. Depending on the speedrun type (one of the most common being "Any%") you want to make sure that you can run a specific version which allows you the glitch.

Vanilla is also a good baseline to compare, since everyone can access it and does not constantly have to adapt to changing software.

No. Not possible. Once you update a game you can't play that game on that switch without the update. System format doesn't help any way of deleting or archiving doesn't help. It doesn't work. Period.

people forget you need to delete your save file for the cart thing to work, becuae if save file was saved on a version higher it wont load on a lower version so yes to play vanilla zelda after saving on higher version delete the update and save file and insert the cartrige and make a new save.

Not sure this will work. Don't think so, but it might :O
However, without being able to backup your save this is still a stupid situation.

I would suggest to test this:
- Archive software (keep save, remove updates)
- Create new user, switch to the user
- (Maybe reboot to make sure)
- Try to run card and see if it works without update (since this user will not have a save)

It doesn't work. After update that game can not be played on that switch without the update. Even factory reset doesn't help.

Yea, though so. Made sense that the save contains and enforces a version thou.

I was expecting that the switch contains an internal list of titles and versions which can not be downgraded. Once a new version is obtained, the internal list is updated and no version below that can be launched.

Again, makes it vital that the system gets hacked ...
