PokeNavGO-Announcement.png

PokeNavGo allows a user to scan an area anywhere in the world and reveal where all the closest Pokemon are located, within a map size of up to 2 sq km.
How it works:

“PokeNavGO is stylish and easy to use. Simply find a location on the map, place the marker by pressing & holding, click the Pokeball to start revealing all nearby Pokemon. Once revealed you got to catch em all using the official Pokemon GO app.”
Features:

“PokeNavGo will be constantly updated and extended. Upcoming features will include the ability to filter for certain Pokemon."

Currently released for android 4.3 and above, an iOS version will follow shortly.

Thats kinda crap that you have to pay for scans. I mean they are using Niantic servers for monetary gain. I don't think this is going to last long

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Unless they only let you do a couple of scans a day so that then they don't get taken down

While the app looks pretty cool in terms of style, there's already other apps for mobile devices that do it's job, and provide more features. From what the screenshots show, and comments from other people, the app requires the user to purchase scans is just dumb. I know that there's a few alternatives floating around for Android, so I don't think we really need more.

The way the app works is dirty. Promoting the site in this way is just dirty.

Are you guys broke or something? This shouldn't be on GBAtemp much less so on the news page.
I'd pay them to promote my amazing indie anime girl dating sim for PSVita and Steam.

Tried the app, here's my impressions

1. Does not work, didn't detect any nearby pokemon for me
2. Freezes my phone (has to take battery out) so useless in that regard
3. Seems to use some non Google maps api
4. 1.5 euros for the pro version of app
5. Fairly buggy
6. No login required

Uninstalled

There are like 100 of these kind of apps on Play Store and most of them are free, so I don't see why I should pay to use this.
I tried a few of them and they all sort of work but take a long time to scan and have intermittent connection issues among other things. Having to keep switching between Pokemon Go and the map constantly is rather inconvenient, so much so that I haven't bothered with maps lately. It's more fun to just play the game.

Either that or someone *cough* got paid to advertise this ripoff.
That was my concern.
This thread is under news with no mention whatsoever of possible deals/promotions, which is pretty suspect, if not unethical and even illegal, for an uninspired, generic and derivative tertiary app literally nobody knows about except for gbatemp (according to google right now).

Whatever prompted this "article", it should really be disclosed in my opinion.

Wouldn't be surprised if Niantics send them a C&D sometime in the near future. Also, I don't get why this should be in the news here since those developers are profiting over someone else's server. If they made the app totally free, I'm sure some people will support them with donations.

Edit: Also, yes it is illegal to not disclose any pay sponsorship/promotion to the public.

a friend of mine did it and GBAtemp gets 95% of every sale :creep:
j/k, the only thing we get out of this is exclusivity. They wanted us to be the first site to announce it. No monetary gain involved.

also doesn't the app offer free scans? if there's free stuff to get and you arent forced to buy the app, how are you getting ripped off?

would you mind giving a few examples of working alternatives? would be nice if someone could do a comparison review or something :)

Did a gbatemp member create this?
well technically yes I think the authors must have an account on our site. I don't know their usernames though

If this was a paid advertisement, it'd be disclosed. The developer came to GBAtemp's editor in order to get the word out on his app and because he likes GBAtemp, and since Pokemon GO is such a hot trend right now, it'd be stupid not to talk about it. Of course, I'm not a fan of the app costing money, regardless, but it sure seems to work well.

That kind of news sure digs at you, doesn't it? Really gets under your skin for some reason it seems.

ohhh yes the conspiracy theories, keep them coming, we always have a good laugh with them on the staff forum :D tell you what... when regular members become mods and get to see the inner secret places with all the hidden stuff that's staff-only, they are always somewhat disappointed to find out there's no secret porn or ROM stash, no secret plot to rip off our members, nobody paying us to bias our reviews... I imagine for some of them it's a letdown to realize that GBAtemp is actually just a plain old independent community.

seriously, if you knew the least bit about GBAtemp you'd know there isn't anything of the sort involved. We're just proud to have exclusivity over the news because the creators like our site, that's all there is to it.
