so much negativity in this thread. which if you actually own a OUYA and can honestly comment on it? the system is at gamestop, target, and bestbuy now. according to what i read, it is selling well. there are something like 500 games/apps on the OUYA store and a side-loading development community bringing more over. i'd like to see you come up with another 1080p portable emulation box with great pick-up-and-play experiences for $99.

Quick question, if my intention for buying an Ouya is purely as an emulation box, would you still recommend it or would I be better off just buying a generic Android box/stick?

this may help you to make your decision:

The White OUYA has 16 gigs of ram, compared to the 8 gigs in the standard model. Frankly I think adding the extra storage is silly when you can easily expand with a USB hard drive but, oh well.

its 16 GB of internal storage, microSD i assume, tho i have not opened one up yet. the system still has 1 GB of RAM, just like KS units. you can expand storage with a USB stick, so what you are really paying for is a white unit that will not be sold in stores. it isn't worth the extra $30 in my opinion. perhaps if it came in an actual color, blue, green, orange, anything, and some money for the OUYA store.

Wait, this thing does Dreamcast emulation? How good is that and the N64 emulation?

No Micro SD on this unit. The SOC is exactly the same but with more internal storage. Besides, a Micro SD slot would throw a huge monkey wrench into the current OUYA environment and quite frankly, OUYA Inc cant afford to waste time on such an issue. Especially when a really HUGE system update is due out this week.

2ndApex: There is NO official Dreamcast emu. It plays PSP games pretty damn well so I can imagine that a Dreamcast emu is around the corner...one day.

i didn't mean there is a slot, i'm assuming the internal storage is a msd card you can't get to without opening the shell.

I mean like there's no SD card at all, internally or via slot. Don't get me wrong, I'm used to Chinese Android devices actually having a physical internal SD card along with a SD slot but OUYA does not fall into that category.
