Is there a new shop updater yet?

... Or must I use the thing everyone else used that I'm to scared to try. >_> Is there a step by step to doing it that way...

Well there are different ways to update the Shop channel with different utilities.

You can:
  • Download the WADs for IOS56-v5662 and Wii Shop Channel-v20 using NUSD and install them using a WAD Manager like MMM.
  • Use program like Pimp-My-Wii or ModMii selecting the manual/custom option if you don't want to do an all out overhaul.
  • Bite the bullet and update via Nintendo's Update (Not recommended).
You should feel okay using one of these methods, not the last though

If you feel intimidated, just do some reading homework beforehand. Any shop updater is just doing the same thing after all, they download the IOS and channel then install them...

If you really need help, GAF made a simple easy to follow guide here: Wii Shop Update without updating Wii.

I did some more testing and I can load emulators through the sd card and they load/play/exit just fine. I just still cant load from usb game backups from drive no matter what i try. Im still in the dark as to why i cant. The ModMii update from 4.2u-4.2u(which as you know was mainly to update IOS(s) file(s). And that process was 100% successful according to Modmii and syschk showing no signs of trouble. Anyone have more ideas to try? I also put a sd card in the usb port with a reader in an attempt to load backups. The loaders see them fine, you can download art for them. But when they start to load you simply get taken straight back to Main channel menu. My info to the matter is a page back if you can try and help. Thanks.

ok another strange thing to add to this. Just for kicks i tried to load another random game from the wbfs drive. It was Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop. It loads right up no matter what usb loader program you use. It works in Wiiflow Alpha 2.2, it worked in cfg usbloader. Yet not one other single backup will run. They are not bad images(just so you are aware, as i played them fine before the ModMii update). Everytime you try to load a game it still goes straight back to the main menu channel. WTF is goin with this thing? Im at a complete loss

ok nevermind, seem to have fixed by reformatting drive to use fat32 and use wbfs folder and images. Also redid the modmii update again, this time keeping IOS249r19 instead of version 20

can you softmod an already hardmodded wii? i recently got a wii with an older drive chip in it (D2Sun v3) and some games don't seem to work (arc rise, new super mario etc), i wanted to install a usb loader onto the machine but i assume it has to be softmodded in order to run homebrew applications? can this be done on an already chipped wii?

Use AnyTitle Deleter and delete them. Heres a list of system channels by ID.
http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Title_Database#000...System_channels

I can't get AnyTitle Deleter to start. I'm on CIOSX rev20b and Waninkoko System Menu v4.3

seems to me like rev19 and rev20 do not identify a SU. this probably doesn't mean much to you, but basically you are not getting full control that you need. I had the same issue installing Priiloader. you cannot use rev20 (and i think 19 as well) to install. rev17 works just fine and that should be in your 249 slot. rev20 should be in its own slot(s).

Looks like I don't have rev17 installed, just 19. I can't start Custom IOS38 rev17 installer either. Just a blank screen as always.

What are you trying exactly? And why IOS61? Are you using the old homebrew channel?

I'm kinda panicking here, downloaded newest homebrew channel and priiloader, installed bootmii and that stuff. the console has system menu 4.2e, previously softmodded.
Just launched the priiloader installer and pressed +. On my own wii i still have preloader 0.3 so i have no idea what to do.

I think i installed rev14 for him a long time ago, i haven't updated yet.

OK, download Multi Mod Manager, start it with the homebrew channel, last point - select IOS36, first point - start the priiloader installer and install it.

MMM. I also noticed i apparently didn't patch ios36 last time, it's boot2v4.
OK, can you select other IOSes? Do you have IOS249 installed? This would be good if you can select it.

So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
    +1
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
