Just as an addition - I did some more checking & found that fat32 (32k clusters) are also the cause of my usb flash drives fails.
Seems that deleting & adding (many) files, even mp3's will also cause corruption to files (over-time).
Having said that, the micro sdxc cards don't seem to have that problem (yet).

The fat32 (32k cluster) is not as stable with usb flash drives as originally thought.
It's not as perfect as it's made out to be. This is not just with the wii :(

Good morning,

in general USB keys in WBFS format (only for wii games) generally work well.
but some USB keys also like FAT32 and WBFS. To be sure ==> you have to test, that's how you can see if it works. :yaywii:

These are the Micro sdxc to usb2 adapters (pic below). I couldn't dig up the original ebay purchase stats. I did search high & low to find these. No luck :(
I can't find these adapters anymore, but these were certified to 128gb sdxc.
I got them working with 256gb & 512gb sdxc, & without any problems.
Sadly, the current adapters seem to only cover sdhc limits (32gb).
Maybe I was lucky with the ones I got, & they were a bargain at Au$6.50 (for a 3 pack - ebay).
I can't advise on the new style adapters, but if anybody else has tried them, then please drop a line of what was experienced :)

Also, just bought another Samsung 256gb & 512gb evo+ sdxc cards for Au$90 (total).
These are for the latest Modmii & my other 2 wii's waiting to be legends ;)
The older mod is going strong & 99.9% faultless :)

I know a lot of you will be looking at the packaging info & wondering ....
Win8 ? That's the limit ? So, when were these produced ? Aha !!!
Even the 128gb certification is iffy, at best. Yeah, it's Asian produced & rated. Aha ;)
But for what it's worth, it works. And that's the best thing.
I really wanted to try 1tb & 2tb micro sdxc cards, but to hell with it. Too expensive, now days :(
I really hope there's somebody out there that's willing to try what I have mentioned in my testing processes & find success - Like I did :)
USB2 is the standard you will be stuck with (Wii) :)

As a side-note, I'm only dealing with wii & gc games.
I pose a question as to gc wireless controllers (pic below).
Tried to ask sellers to clarify wii console compatibility, but, they know nothing.
Is the pic below any good with the wii (for gc games) ? Is anything else needed ?
Looks like it's as simple as plug & play. Is it ?
I do have a wired controller, but it plays-up with extensions.
Any experience would be appreciated :)

Not a wavebird, but a clone. At much less than quarter of the price ... You get the point.

3 weeks later .... they came.
I could have walked there & back & got it faster ;)
600km away .... Grrrrr
1682854519030.jpeg

Now, to find the time to use them.
Too many other small home jobs to do first. Other mods will have to wait at least several weeks, but winter is near & that means indoor with the log-fire & trying to teach myself to play the wii games. Still prefer gc games, but my daughter loves the wii games.
Pity nobody's replied to my gc controller question :(

Ordered the Wavebird clone (the pic above) - Will get it in a week or two, or ..... ?
Found some pics with ppl using the same setup.
I don't foresee many problems, but I feel it will lag with certain gc games.
Price was much better @ Au$26. Hard to say "No" to that. It's only money ;)

Back to the usual working duties. Hope to get some time to play games.
Hugo looks nice & easy ;)

OK - Got the gc wireless controller.

1st try - It was like ... Lack of control - Shooting all over the place with most games :(
I know it doesn't sit flat in the wii/gc slots, & one tends to wonder if that's a problem.
I may (eventually) cut, grind, file the remote plug & make it flat to fit evenly. I just don't want to weaken the plug structure. It does seem to sit evenly/deep enough not to cause problems.

After a several restarts & fails, I restarted the wii (gc remote unplugged), & plugged remote in after games started (with nintendont), & it worked.
Really thought it would be more compatible, but some boring, tasks crap has to be repeated.

The other issue I found was exiting gc games via the multiple button combo presses. It's not as direct as it is with the wired controller. Had to do it multiple times, & it got frustrating. But, it worked, eventually. Maybe it's combo of the buttons pressed.

Think carefully before you buy these clones. If you're expecting good compatibility, then, think again. I will be trying other methods to overcome these crappy issues.

Au$26 compared to whatever the Wavebird is worth ... You do the math, but sanity is paramount.

So far - 6/10
Maybe I'm just getting cranky in my older age. Normally, I'm good judge on my intuitions. I did expect better results from this gc remote clone.

Just a simple update ....

All going great with using SDXC cards with my USB adapters. Hasn't missed a beat :)

Same, repeated minor issues with discrete 256gb USB drives. Not a huge disappointment, but when there's a choice between SDXC & discrete USB drives, I choose the SDXC over discrete USB drives :)

Still haven't done the new mods on my other wii's. Time & married life is an issue :(

Also, haven't given up on SD/TF IDE to USB adapters.
The TF card titles are somewhat worrying. Just need to find simple adapters that can cope.
There's not supposed to be any difference between TF & SD, but when it comes to supported adapter sizes ... That's very limited :(
I don't trust nor believe I can go the full hog & try 512gb or above SDXC. The sellers are really useless with providing relevant info. That's where my spider-senses are tingling :(
I need to be mentally satisfied with what needs to be achieved. Finding the right product is a challenge, but I will pursue it till I can :)
Trying to stay away from SSD's (I hold no grudges). I hear they work fine - But, the price :(

Always trying to provide other ways of utilizing, successful multiple ways of wii game storage.
HDD's are the best, but .... I just wanted to stick to my guns & provide other means :)

Nothing like a enjoyable wii - Except a prostate issue ;)

A year after I joined GBA, starting my 1st ever softmod ....

Hardware & methods I used are functioning well, & without any updates.
WBFS partition & the storage I used, haven't missed a beat. I haven't added nor deleted any games. I only used ATD to remove unwanted crap that was lingering, & that was several titles. I like keeping it simple & only play/use Wii & GC games.

I haven't tried to progress with the GC remote issue, but that's only due to lack of time & patience. Wired GC controller works great, but fails with extensions.

Just goes to prove success is self-selective & everyone has a different outcome.
I'm happy with all of mine :)
Thanks XFlak for ModMii. Great stuff, man !!! :)
Also, thanks to all the other members for their advice & input :)

I still plan on doing other hardware trials, but I need a time-pause button. My family's life is about get heaps more hectic :(

Another progress, observation bla bla bla :

After over a year of using WBFS partition - I going to re-do my Wii's game play list (soon).
Basically, the same way I did as in my previous notes.
Start from scratch with a fresh WBFS partition & dump games in one go. All the crap happens when deleting & adding games a bit at a time .... bla bla bla.
I have been using a 512gb Samsung evo+ micro SDXC in a USB2 adapter. WBFS partition worked better than well the first time & still no corrupt or damaged files/games .... bla bla bla.

Fat32 (huh) ?? Good/better on Windows, but not so good with other gadgets. Many aren't following the guidelines :(
Ever noticed when you delete &/or add, lets say 'mp3s'; the playback queue list rearanges with certain songs & then some songs develop blops, twangs, jump to other songs or just become garbled ?

I know many have had success with discrete USB flash drives with Fat32, but I would put it down to smaller USB capacity sizes & certain brands, plus USB3x can confuse/hinder issues. Finding the better ones are mostly guess work, but not impossible.

Yes - I'm still using a early USBLGX & I really want to implement the latest GX. I need to see (for myself) if the hype is true.
Many say there isn't much difference between USB flash drives & micro SD cards, but I beg to differ. The compatibility & speed rates are vastly greater. Micro SD is a clear winner, but I'm still on WBFS partitions, & not Fat32. Just leaving well-enough-alone & enjoying the success. GC games & apps are on 256gb micro SD with fat32 (front of Wii).

HDDs are nominated as the most compatible, but you will still encounter certain game load issues with Fat32. GX is the best one with the most load successes. ConfigUSB is my backup.
Both of my HDDs - Seagate 2tb external power & Seagate 2tb USB powered, perform well enough with Fat32 & GX (old vers). I found it identical (gaming compatibility & load speeds) to SDXC in USB2 adapters. I only use the HDDs as backup storage (these days).

Anyway, I need to re-do my laptop's OS. Win10 pro updates are driving me crazy. Win apps are failing & resetting to some abnormal states. Very unstable. I think my laptop's HDD is nearing it's end.
HDD image backup to start with & the rest will be painfully slow, boring & frustrating to watch unfold.

I'm the type that prefers to do/try things directly & keep it basically, very simple. So much info floating around & then the "Don't follow this, that & the other. And then, ModMii simply does it's magic :) Gotta love XFlak's work !! :)
The Wii is able to do so many other things, but for me it's plainly Wii & GC games. It's what I had from the hard-mod beginning.

Some people just love to hang shit on WBFS partitioning &, yes it has issues, but when under control, it's equivalent &/or better than Fat32. But, there's still compatibility issues with newer & larger, discrete Flash drives. Heaps better with SDXC's.
WBFS was made-up for the Wii & was never perfected/completed - Pity :( There could have been many more apps made for ease of use.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas & had a blast on New Year's eve. GBA = Still the place to be. Thank you :)

ps. Wonder how many folks got a Wii as a Chrisy present or just, self indulged.

pps. I wrote/prepared the above just prior to my laptop's functions turning to crap. Hoping I can post this without hassles.
Not looking good, but it looks like the HDD, but it also looks like NTFS aging issues, & it looks like Win10 pro updates have taken a toll. It's not looking like the media integrity (much). Though apps are failing & some corrupt files, & I need to back them up. Been busy doing that.
Not happy, but that's life. It is a 2008 Emachines 727. Things just turn to shit with old age ;)
The good news - The 727 has a twin. Yeah, I got 2 of them for my daughters during their school years.

Back soon. I hope :)
Hang in there Blackb0x - I'm getting there.

There's a buggy update that's still not fixed, it's for the WinRE backup partition, though it keeps failing no matter what if you have that partition or not. Been working/waiting for it to fix itself for 2 days, i stopped after it refused to do so, and alot of people online having the same issue still waiting for a fix.
Though it didn't affect anything like apps etc your describing, maybe your hdd is indeed near its eol cycle. One way to know is running HD Sentinel, it should tell you if there's any issues with it like dead sectors etc. also life expectancy, if it does.

Thanks, CoolMe.
I always hated updates & figured they added with the cause. Updates are now fully disabled ! Freedom at last !!
Just have to avoid Chrome ad days. Google - You SUCK !!
My main issues seem to have emanated from a faulty USB port (bent & self sagging).
Need to wait another month or so to "image back-up" my HDD & start getting some online life back again.

I haven't even had a chance to fire-up my Wii. But, I think if there are any issues brewing, the pause -time will bring it out.
Twin grandsons are keeping me/us beyond busy, & time is hard to come by.

Thanks for checking on me XFlak. All good (insanely). Hope you're doing well.

I'll be around whenever time permits (high hopes). Sanity first !! ;)

Well .... If life sucks, it really effin' sucks.
The youngest one of my twin grandsons is having medical issues.
I really hate this world, sometimes. I hate the word fate & will never abide by it.
Seems the little guy has reflux/stomach issues. How you doin' ExFlak ? (No need to respond)

Anyway, to keep some sanity I fired up the Wii & played.
I'm alone & the rest of my clan is in Melbourne children's hospital. Poor little man can't keep any nourishment down & keeps puking. The so called specialists don't know what the cause is. Can you believe it ?
My little man hasn't kept any food down for over a week. 98% is hurled within 5min.
Going insane, here. They are 700km away.

Wii is still going strong, but I mostly played Hugo.

Wow !!!
A over a week in the children's hospital & they couldn't put a finger on the problem.
So, the elimination process begins. They seem to think it's a milk protein issue, but also think it's over-feeding , & then there's few more possibilities that surround the same issues.
Anyway, they've been home for a week (or so), We've followed the recommendations, but problems still persist. They have got slightly better.
It's a different lime-light being an acting parent (I'm grandpa - or grumpy) the 2nd time round. There is no direct "father", as it was an IVF donor procedure. My life has gotten way beyond busy.
I miss being here (GBA) & wish I had the time.

So, I've also somehow found the time to solve my laptop's OS issues.
It's old & being outdated, but it's Win updates & Chrome. With the stock, initial Win install, it works better & faster. After updates .... crap hits the fan. Then Chrome newer standards kick-in & start the other issues. All-in-all, they just want you to upgrade to newer PCs. I miss the days of XP. I wish I was on Gilligan's island.

On the Wii topic - Strangely, the few games that gave booting issues with USBLoader, all seem to work fine. Those games only ever loaded with ConfigUSB.
I would put this down to those games having a setup-save option at the beginning of the game. But, the games that didn't have that, also work great.
The only reason I found out was that I got pissed-off at Hugo (couldn't pass level).
Was never a huge Wii fan, but it's amazing how it can grow on you.

Thanks for all the well wishes. It's greatly appreciated. My twin grandsons are my life. I had 4 daughters. This is a different ball-game. I thought I new the size of love, but this totally blew me away.
I miss you guys. I will try to make an appearance as often as I possibly can. Thank you :)

ps. Hang in there XFlak. We do learn something everyday. The way it should be.
