This is a heads up as per some newer references on people picking up new Switches, they are starting to show up as 3.0.0 on boot. Cartridges of new games have already reached 3.0.0 mandatory firmware to run, Odyssey carts are unlikely to boot in 3.0.0.

I highlight this as a new thread as it strongly suggests that come Odyssey and its bundle next month, which will be stock that should roughly now be reaching finalization and shipping cargos, is very likely to arrive with 3.0.1, or even 3.0.2, on boot. Broader stock will take time to filter out of the retail channels and the default Gray or Blue/Red Sets will remain 3.0.0 or less for some time but towards the end of October you are likely going to start playing Russian Roulette with your purchase of a Switch. Demand remains high in the North American/Japanese markets as well as others, so retail churn will be fast.

The timetable for picking up a Switch for potential homebrew access is dwindling.

I bet Mario oddesy will be 3.0.0, they usually take months and months to stock pile consoles for sale. But with it being a download code with the bundle it wont much matter as you will need latest firmware to access the download server.

These are from months ago.

Odyssey is a month from now, at longest the stockpile started last month. That's already post-3.0.1.

Its not the people don't listen, its just probably that homebrew may not be that big a deal to them in the closer future. You want to emulate games on a console? You can buy 30 nintendo Wii for 1 switch.
Don't get me wrong I'm excited for a homebrew scene, but if their are awesome games to play I can wait for the future and will upgrade. I am of the opinion some other exploit will come again within the life span of the switch. Read the poll being done on the Topic---,"What will you do when nothing happens" and you will notice close to half the people will update the minute they get their dream game, and it is also the vast majority vote. I can't say I blame them, as a console is bought to be used ;). Buying a second switch is an option, but not everyone wants to spend money on a 300$ closet warmer. Their are people that prepare worst case scenario, in which smhax is going to be the only exploit, or maybe they just want homebrew ASAP, I can understand this. However many people will also feel that in the case another exploit comes out sometime in the next 7years, or however long the switch future holds, its a 300$ trash can item. Again its all perspective as 300$ to some people means more than it does to others. The people that are most determined to have homebrew ASAP, will already have their consoles. I wouldn't be surprised if its a long wait before the emulation scene becomes available though.

I have 3 switches 2 on 2.3 .. one on 3.1 .. thinking to sale the 2.3.. I have a eBay account that I only used for buying stuff .. any takers ? I used it once to see what Firmware its on. It’s a red/blue joycons. I live in Seattle. It will be a fair price. Since I opened it. I’m also thinking to do Craigslist.. because I’d rather give it away locally ... But with a switch and Craigslist . Might be shady. I’d rather sale it to someone to a community like this or wololo or even neogaf... that I visit often .. I know some people might be looking for one 3.0>

I love you optimism ;)!
Worst case scenario for me and I require a switch on 3.0 or under, I guess ill shop online for it. I really would love to see emulators and cool stuff on the switch in the nearby future. My biggest hope is that some other exploit gets found but doesn't get released right away. If something isn't released till a more stable firmware, it likely won't get patched until then. Once a CFW on a console is stabilised, people are much more inclined to work on it, with a greater gap between FW updates more people will jump on too, meaning a more rapid and productive homebrew scene. I've not yet updated, but if something comes out that is really tempting I will fold I think :P.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
