I think MH3U worked differently than 4U and XX. Instead of on the extdata folder, it goes on your save file folder.

Inside of your Nintendo 3DS folder there's a "title" folder.

Inside should be a folder named 0004000. There should be another folder that matches de ID of MH3U, the european copy for example, as is the one I own, has an ID of b1d00.

Inside, there should be a folder named content, and I believe the files should go there.

Reading this made me remember I should backup my dlc files for all three games just in case, we cannot get them the normal way anymore.

Wouldnt it just be that they stick the files on the 3ds card and just install them with FBI?

DLC in the monster hunter games works differently from typical DLC, it's downloaded ingame in the style of individually downloaded "extra content", kind of like an on-demand spotpass. it's similar to how you download pokemon via mystery gift

The dowloadable content for MH games is not an "executable" CIA or similar. It was in-game downloads, it got the files themselves and put them in a specific folder to access whenever needed. MH3U's files for example are close to what an installed game looks like, with a tmd file among other things, while MHXX has four files named 00000000~00000004.

Not to be confused with updates, which are different and those can be insalled through CIA.

MHXX does have DLC, a very large amount of quests, item packs (which I never redeemed, lol) and special Palicos with unique skills. Oh, and a boatload of Arena challenges.

There's no "USA" version of MHXX (Double Cross, or Generations Ultimate) for 3DS, I wish it was. Generations, the first version of the game, did have DLC, but they're different entities and the DLC is different for each. And as mentioned, MH3U puts things in the save folder, but the others put them on the usual extdata structure.

sd:/Nintendo 3DS/[Folder with a serial number][Another folder with a serial number]/00040000/000bd100/content

There, there's a cmd folder, 00000000.app, 00000000,tmd and 00000001.app.
Again, look for the id that matches the region of your game.

European MH3U is 000BD100, american is 000AE400.
Oh, and be sure the DLC matches your region too, you might be using DLC for the version you don't have, and might cause conflicts.

That's not the directory I said. You don't have the folder with the long string of numbers, which is strange...

Have the game installed? Did you run it, or boot your cartridge to create a file?

Ah...

I will have to look more, I don't know what could be going on there, and I don't have my console near.

I wonder if dlc is locked to the save file it was downloaded with or something else going on...

Edit: I just noticed.

The card1/2/3, cardbox and quest1/2/3/4 files are the result of taking the files out of the system through the save file manager Checkpoint.

You should reinsert them through checkpoint too, you'd need to go to the sd:/3ds/Checkpoint/exdata folder, create another folder there named "0x0AE400 MH3U" and inside of that oneand put those files there.

sd:/3ds/Checkpoint/exdata/0x0AE400 MH3U/DLC

For example.

Then on checkpoint you might be able to encrypt them and put them where they belong.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
