Looks neat. Not terribly creative, but creativity in Mario games has been on the decline anyways - what matters is that it's charming and looks gorgeous. This should've been a launch title.
That's sort of my problem. It almost feels like they try to market this as the same game, just looking better. "Oh look, Rainbow Road! Look at the fly trap plant! Here, have a metal power up from our other game! You know these things, you like them!". It plays on heart strings and pulls the nostalgia card, although I will give them credit, they used the plant in a creative way. I almost wish that they went with the All-Stars route and included other franchises like Star Fox and Metroid, it would mix things up. Full-on aerial stages would be cool too, or underwater ones - it would change the gameplay more substantially. The last additions like this were motorcycles and custom cars, and that was on the Wii. The game looks like buckets of fun though, I just hope it won't be Nintendo's Call of Duty, meaning a minor upgrade that panders to the fans only. And yes, titles like this and Smash would've put the Wii U in the limelight at launch, I'll never understand why Nintendo entered the next gen race completely unprepared... again. Some lessons are hard to learn, I guess.I agree, plus smash bros also would've been a good launch title.
Did you hear the rainbow road theme? It sounds sweet!

Maybe Nintendo should stop basing their crucial business decisions on hope - this isn't the first time they botched a launch.Maybe they thought it would be a One-Hit wonder type of success? =/
