I've seen some additional photos from that site. In one photo I noticed additional contact points. What I mean is this:

Bottom right corner. Normally you can't flip cards and insert them backwards and even if you could the reverse side of the PCB is always behind the front plastic, so why the hell does this have pins in areas that will never be exposed and can't connect to anything?
Those are for initially programming (or reprogramming) the ASIC.
