It's not out yet, but they will start beta testing the firmware soon. It's an internal beta testing, they will release the firmware after the beta testing is done.

Sooo because I agree with "some other sites" being so confusing, could anyone please tell me if there's any new firmware at all that bypasses the banning or should I still avoid taking my (Samsung) 360 online?

iXtreme 1.2 seems to be the safest, Although ive been running an old Samsung MS25 with 5.3c for ages on live and its still not been banned

I think its more down to if your games are patched properly or not as opposed to what fw you are running

The Hitachi ixtrm 1.2 firmware has been released and you can read all about it here:x-box scene. This is the long awaited xbox live safe firmware for the xbox 360 Hitachi drives. But only the v46-v59 drives can be hacked right now.v78 Hitachi drives will needs a new firmware toolbox in order to "smart hack" v78/v79 firmwares to iXtrm 1.2.
