i loathe apple products.

never used an iphone, took it off the hand of some relatives and did not like it, the os is crap compared to androids.
i have used galaxy phones ,they are good.
htc is good, and there is lg etc.

my favorite is google, i love pure android.
i have had my nexus 6p for nearly a year now, very pleased with it.

endless custom rom options, easy tweaks never bootloop.
what else could i ask for.

my next phone will most likely be pixel 2 or 3 (depending if my 6p holds out well for another + year, because i love my 6p).

The fight can't be won unless either Apple or Google go bust.

If both went bust I guess Android would then win by default, the project would get forked and continue, just without the proprietary Google stuff. LineageOS might well be the driving force of Android if that ever did happen.

I thought it was only partly open source, because Google adding their proprietary crap.

If the person has that kind of paranoia, i can see 2 solutions:

1. Move to a clamshell or a Motorola V3, or a nokia old phone.
2. Use a complete open source system, Lineage Os, and stop using gapps, and just download the APK needed. ;D
