How to export/import Gateway Card1 .sav to eShop/3ds/3dz with SaveDataFiler

I found a workaround how to export/import Card1 Savegames (no retail support)

First you know we had the problem of " CTR - BROKEN ", but there is a little trick to it.

!MT-Card USER can do this without Workaround because the save gets loaded on ROM mounting!

To fetch your Cartridge Savegames, you can use this method: NTR Savegame Manager Plugin

We need:

- Red Gateway Card
- The Exploit
- Launcher.dat (tested with 3.0.3 Ultra)
- SaveDataFiler
- The .3ds/.3dz/.cia Game you want to export/import
- A working Savegame (Dumped Savegames from Retail might not work)
- A PC/MAC (any Device capeable to rename Files)

!MAKE ALWAYS BACKUPS FROM YOUR SAVEGAMES!

A. EXPORT .3ds/.3dz to eShop:

Savegame example: Super Mario 3D Land (0004000000053F00) > http://3ds.essh.co/

1. Connect the SD Card to your PC
2. Copy your Savegame and save it as 000400000FF40A00.sav
3. Put SD Card back into your 3DS
4. Turn it on and execute Exploit
5. Mount your .3ds/.3dz Game
6. Start SaveDataFiler (CTR Card is no longer broken!) and highlight CTR Card
7. Press Y and then A to export the Savegame

SaveDataFiler stores in SDCARD:\filer\UserSaveData\20150131010203\0000053f
YEAR-MONTH-DAY-HOUR-MINUTE-SECONDS \ TitleID low

8. Switch to SD and highlight your TitleID
9. Press R+A and then A to import your Savegame
10. Press Home, select the cia game and press two times A to start

B. EXPORT eShop to .3ds/.3dz:

Savegame example: Super Mario 3D Land (0004000000053F00) > http://3ds.essh.co/

1. Start your 3DS and execute Exploit
2. Mount your Game
3. Start SaveDataFiler and highlight your TitleID low
4. Press Y and then A to export the Savegame
5. Switch over to SD and highlight TitleID low
6. Press L + A and then A to create 000400000FF40A00.sav (CTR Card is no longer broken!)
7. Turn your 3DS off and connect the SD CARD with your PC
8. Copy 000400000FF40A00.sav to your TitleID (0004000000053F00.sav)
9. Put your SD Card back into your 3DS
10. Turn your 3DS on and execute Exploit
11. Mount your Game and start it

Export Retail Card with CFW and SDF:

Note: As for CFW works only with FW4.5, 6.x encryption will fail.

1. You need CFW and installed SafeDataFiler on a spare SD Card
2. Start your CFW and insert your Cartridge
3. Start SafeDataFiler and highlight CTR Card
4. Press Y and then A to export the Savegame
5. Turn off your 3DS and move the 'filer' folder to your PC
6. Switch over to your Gateway (emuNAND) SD Card and add the 'filer' folder from PC
7. Insert your Gateway (emuNAND) SD Card into your 3DS
8. Start your 3DS, execute Exploit and start SaveDataFiler
9. Now you can follow A8 for eShop or B5 for .3ds/.3dz

(Be patient with CFW, sometimes it takes 10 tries to get it working)

Thx queno138 : original Post

Info:

"Nintendo 3DS\ID1\ID2\" = eShop , "000400000000XXXXXXX.sav" = Card 1

If your ID1\ID2 does not match after downgrade or formating 3DS,
your Save is LOST if there is no NAND Backup using that ID1\ID2!!!

If you have the NAND Backup matching ID1\ID2,
you can import it as emuNAND with emuNANDTool!

It is impossible to use NAND Backups or encrypted eShop saves
from another 3DS! You need to decrypt the saves first before you
can transfer them!

EXPORT / IMPORT from Original Cartridge is now possible
with Cubic Ninja + PASTA CFW + SaveData Filer!!!

Thanks for the Info.
Then i wait for a another trick or hack

I don't think this is gonna happen and your saves are lost.

Most likely you will be faster to start over again
if there is no NAND Backup matching ID1\ID2,
or in your case your old 3DS.

Am I to understand that I can import retail card1 saves through this method (or something simlar to?). I'd like to do this for my Pokemon Y and LoT: OOZ games. Both should be pre 7.X keys if that matters.

OOT was played on my sysNAND, Pokemon Y on my emuNAND. They are still linked.

But so i need anyway both copy of games? (CIA and 3ds/3dz), because from wrong i formatted my red gw card micro sd in fat32, so now i cant use big games like MGS 3D (4GB), and i have a save .sav, and the games is 3.06 gb if i install as cia, but as cia i cant use .sav... but if i read right the tutorial, i need a mounted 3ds for export/import between cia and 3ds, its right?

This worked great. For those wanting to transfer their .3ds saves to .3dz (and vice versa), or .3dz with a public header to .3dz with a private header, you can follow the guide in this order:

A. EXPORT .3ds/.3dz save to decrypted save:

Savegame example: Super Mario 3D Land (0004000000053F00) > http://3ds.essh.co/

1. Connect the SD Card to your PC
2. Copy your Savegame and save it as 000400000FF40A00.sav
3. Put SD Card back into your 3DS
4. Turn it on and execute Exploit
5. Mount your .3ds/.3dz Game (Warning: The rom mounted must be the exact rom that has the same header as the save you want to decrypt)
6. Start SaveDataFiler (CTR Card is no longer broken!) and highlight CTR Card
7. Press Y and then A to export the Savegame (It will now be in the SD tab, decrypted).

B. EXPORT decrypted save to .3ds/.3dz save:

Savegame example: Super Mario 3D Land (0004000000053F00) > http://3ds.essh.co/

1. Put Rom you want to export the save to in your microSD (If transferring a save from a header-less .3ds to a .3dz, this is the time you replace said .3ds with said .3dz)
2. Run exploit
3. Mount the game
4. Start SaveDataFiler
5. Switch over to SD and highlight TitleID low
6. Press L + A and then A to create 000400000FF40A00.sav (CTR Card is no longer broken!)
7. Turn your 3DS off and connect the SD CARD with your PC
8. Copy 000400000FF40A00.sav to your TitleID (0004000000053F00.sav)
9. Put your SD Card back into your 3DS
10. Turn your 3DS on and execute Exploit
11. Mount your Game and start it

Note: I ran into a problem trying to decrypt a save because I had already replaced the corresponding .3dz rom with a new .3dz rom (with a private header) before decrypting the old save. This is why you must switch the rom only after part A is completed.

I'm on EU now but i would like to play on the US i know it makes no difference but just curious as i have a US console, will i be able to update the EU version from eshop? I have gateway currently and on firmware 9.5

Hello everyone, first post here, I'm trying to use this guide in conjunction with the "Bravely Default Save Editor" but I have hit a roadblock. I have exported my .3ds rom savedata and then edited it using the Bravely Default Save Editor tool, but I do not know where to go from there. I have imported the save using savadatafiler, but now when I launch my game, the data has been wiped. How can I use this edited savedata in my game (.3ds rom)? Do I have to convert my .3ds rom to a .cia rom to use the edited savefile?

This guide kinda overcomplicates the process. All you have to do is rename the savefile to SaveDataFier's ID (000400000FF40A00), so it (somehow) gets loaded when you run it. The proper game has to be selected in gateway's rom selection menu too, of course.

When you have imported everything into the new save file, just rename it to the original name and it will be read fine by the rom.

So, I seem to be having problems with this. I'm attempting to transfer my MH4U EU save to US with Gateway on the current firmware. Here are the steps I did:
  • Deleted all .sav (after backing them up, thank god).
  • Copied 01261 .sav (EU MH4U) and renamed to FF40A.
  • Mounted EU MH4U, opened SDF, highlighted CTR Card, and exported with Y button. It then shows up in the SD section of SDF.
Now this is where the problems start. I'm supposed to then go to extdata and copy the EU data onto the US data. But I have no idea how to do that. I tried renaming the US save file to FF40A then importing the EU file, but I get an error message. -7, 4, 17, 141. Am I supposed to do something different?

You need both version extracted save for importing
I, for import EU save to US game, do:
1) export EU save (continued game)
2) Export US save (also at start, dont matter, but need a save)
3) put SD on pc, go in SaveDataFiler folders, and swap the save (dat or bin) from EU to US, dont copy entire save folder or rename it!

for example: if my eu save folder is 1234 and inside have data.dat (example), and mu US save is 5678 with data.dat, simple copy and paste data.dat from 1234 folder to 5678 folder and then import again in the game
