Hoping someone here might be able to assist me. My son recently purchased a used PSP 1000. When he went to play Metal Gear he received the error message [The game could not be started (DADADADA)]. It was only then that we realized that customer firmware had been loaded on the system before we bought it. I tried following the instructions to downgrade the customer firmware using Chronoswitch Downgrader 7.0 but that does not recognize the 3.40 OE-A [Error: Firmware Not Supported]. When I just try to run update 6.60 I receive the same [The game could not be started (DADADADA)] message. I'm really not sure where to go from here, does anyone know how I can restore this thing to an original PSP firmware version?

You can try this method to upgrade from 3.40 OE-A to 5.00 M33-4:
  1. Download this and extract to PSP/GAME in memory card.
  2. Download this and extract to root of memory card.
  3. Turn on your psp and launch "Recovery Flasher" from the Game section.
  4. Choose: I agree, Target FW: 5.0 [by default], Install CFW, Reset settings as well -> After this press any key
From here, you can flash any firmware without DADADADA error.
