But my fiancée ordered my The Zeldacarina of time 3D game and was wondering can I use that to downgrade my version and then install a custom firmware? I have read that I need a power saves but I have that already. Just hoping this option works.

If your 3ds is <= 11.1, you can use slowhax, if on 11.2,use soundhax and wait for fasthax...

You will also need an exploitable dsiware game to downgrade, or else this is useless.

Ooh. Hmm, so much to remember. I thought you meant the main homebrew games, but I can figure it out. If I have to wait until some new option opens up I will. Can't keep buying games I probably won't play just to get a custom firmware.
