What I'm wanting to do is transfer my pokemon thunder yellow save that is injected into the virtual console pokemon yellow, continue playing it in gameyob, and then transfer it back when it comes time to transport them to x/y/oras.

btw, in case this hasn't been mentioned already.

The issue with colors, is VC issue, not the rom's issues.

Playing Pokemon Gold (injected) would have the same flickering, and same missing brown parts.

Yeah its most likely to do with the New VC is specifically made for Red/blue/yellow and they make it access the extra palettes because they are not used, would probably be fixed if they released Crystal which has full gbc palette use unlike yellow which is partial

So how would I extract/inject the vc save?
use JKS manager extract the save, copy it to wherever you placed the rom rename it to from sav.dat to romname.sav once you are done copy it back to the JK save folder it was in. rename to sav.dat and reinject

@TheStoneBanana What you could do if you want to do SGB colors, is start with the color hack as a base, modify the palettes, and any routine that switches the VRAM bank to 1, skip that routine (that routine tells what tiles use what palette. By default, they all use the first palette). Since the game will only use the first palette, there will be no need to worry about palettes 5 and 6

Ok forget what I said I give up I tried to play on an emulator (gameyob) that gives a crackling audio. Tried messing with injected VC games with the full color mod that works but when I transfer the saves between the now released official vc games and the inject version stuff just don't seem to work consistently.

So yeah I kinda give up and will just wait for a full color mod for the recently released games. :/

OK kinda related. I thought by myself why not play a color inject version of the game (so not the vc version) and transfer over the save when I want to trade and stuff to the official vc version. While this seems to work perfectly for red it doesn't seem to work for blue because the injected version found on a certain site doesn't show up but the red version does. The topic started has no idea why his custom version doesn't show up.

Currently using Gameyob to play the game in color. I've figured out how to transfer the save back and forth. You have to chop a line and a half of bytes off the end of the save file using a hex editor before you can transfer a gameyob save back to the VC game via SaveDataFiler.

Look at an unaltered save dumped from the VC title to see what size the save is supposed to be. ;)

Any luck in getting the wireless features working with Gold/Silver yet? I personally wouldn't mind playing the game in black and white as long as trading and battling worked :tpi:

Yeah but in gameyob the audio crackles (using old 3dsxl).

So that is not an option.

no especially when you consider L and R didnt exist until the GBA so it cant remap keys that didnt exist
Oh well. I figured because X is mapped to Start it was possible to map other things. I guess that's in the emulator itself which no one has touched yet? Thanks anyways, love your work!

Which version of gameyob are you using? I went with the DS/DSi version. I converted it to a CIA and it runs directly from home menu. Audio works just fine. :P

EDIT:

Here's the TWL version of GameYob:

gameyob_TWL.rar

It should work in the same way as the CTR version. INI file would go in the same place and it will load roms in the same way and what not. I have not noticed any audio issues when playing Pokemon Blue with it. :D

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
