Cannot inject pkm Emerald .sav into Emerald VC via godmode9 2DSxL

I've been having this issue for awhile now. I used nsui to create VC versions of FireRed and Emerald. Using godmode9, I was able to inject my FireRed save, but not my Emerald save. I have no idea why. Because of this, I just use TwilightMenu and GBARunner to play Emerald. I've also tried setting up PKSM, and that works for everything but my Emerald save as well. I also tried using open_agb_firm to load into my Emerald save, just to see what would happen, and it cant load my save file either. I know the save works. I can play it through GBARunner2, my DSLite flashcart, and any emulator I throw it at. I've read some forum posts that suggest I need to trim down my save file, or patch the rom, but those are old posts, and newer information says I shouldnt have to do that anymore. I'm very confused and frustrated. Any help would be appreciated.
