Gamers are "ready" for $70 games, says Take-Two CEO

The latest gaming generation has introduced a number of features, but with all the new and shiny things comes a higher price tag. Some AAA game publishers have used this new generation as a springboard to increase the prices of games from $60 to $70. One of the companies leading the charge is Take-Two, who released NBA 2K21 for $70 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. During a conference call that took place earlier this week, Take-Two's CEO Strauss Zelnick reiterated the point of the price increase for major games going forward, saying, "our review was that we're offering an array of extraordinary experiences, lots of replayability, and the last time there was a frontline price increase in the US was 2005/2006, so we think consumers were ready for it."

While Take-Two seems to think that players are ready to accept the new MSRP for games, he also mentioned that the $70 price point won't apply to all future games published by the studio, as they plan to, "make announcements on a title-by-title basis" and that they "want to always deliver more value than what [they] charge."

dafaq, every time I hear this. I could actually understand it if the games would look like the Unreal 5 Techdemo, but not when you have something that doesn't look different from the old console, especially those dumb sport games where it is proofed that they just recycle assets. Not even talking about the CEOs with their million dollars extra pay.
Have to stop here to prevent a stroke

changes like these will just increase piracy. let's take russia for example. the ratio between sales/downloads on steam (according to valve, https://store.steampowered.com/stats/content/) doesn't quite fit the population. I know from many friends of mine that they prefer torrenting because, even in russia, games are way to expensive for a normal person to buy.
Plus this whole price change will just make more people play F2P games like Fortnite.

but let's be honest, what would you rather spend your money on: a sports game that's basically the same every year, has microtransactions or an indie game like The Long Dark (currently at 30$, discounted very often for around 19$) with great story, not toxic developer and actual effort put into it.

I preordered No Man's Sky and felt ripped off because Hello Games actually did lie to their players/customers. but they delivered and finished the game after all, so I think that the 60$ were well spent, considering that it's basically an indie title too.

The thing that I don't understand and will never support is how Sony and Microsoft are regulating the price for physical copies of their games.
Nintendo said that they had to increase the price because of the manufacturing cost of the cartridge. Ok. I can understand that, but why are Microsoft and Sony also increasing their price? there's no reason. it's the same disc, with the same shitty pay for online scheme.

At least you can use Game Pass on PC.

Anyways. this comment became somewhat of a rant.

tl;dr expensive games = more piracy = no indie games

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.
