I don't think anyone is against people occassionally dropping by to check the progress. I too would like if they communicated as much as they used to.
I think the reason why some of us snap at others is because a portion of the community can be..... demanding, to say the least and forget that even in the worst case scenario, they have nothing to lose. If say, Bamco decided to shelve ReDigitize Decode because of the fanslation (bear with me, it's just a hypothetical), then I can see why people can get a bit antsy.
On to your point about percentages, I would beg to differ. Unlike translations of say, a book, projects like this one is less linear. For a book, you can gauge how much translation is done based on the number of pages and how far into the page have done etc. Simple math. But games have that one additional bit where they need to insert the translation into the game, edit images and what have you. That is not as easy to gauge. And this leads me to your other point about percentages, the time factor. The actual translation is the easy bit and if I remember correctly, they have translated a significant amount, if not most of the text. Once again the technical aspect of this project is what makes ETAs and progress percentages unreliable, and that's not even taking the personal matters that they have to attend to into account yet. Let's assume they had completed 50% in one year. This does NOT translate to the completion of the remaining 50% in another year. And I am sure it will freak people out more than now when they see the figure stay the same over a period of time. Honestly, if someone cannot comprehend that a project such as this can and will take a while, then progress bars will not make any difference. At the end of the day, it serves ZERO purpose for the team and is to appease so a certain subset of people for a little while. And let's say they have been stuck at X% for Y number of days, what are we to do? As I said before, it makes no difference in the grand scheme of things. All it does in create hype and elevated expectations which is fine and dandy in the right amount but let's be honest, we all know of people who can overdose on that and it won't be pretty.
