Why would you get a Wii u now it's not like they're even cheap.
Switch is where it's at.
If you can get a Wii u for like $75 then sure but considering they can't really be found for under $200 just get a switch.
I got a 32GB last week for $175. Still a little pricey, but having more games to play right now is nice. It seems that they're holding their value well, so OP may be able to sell it later for cash toward a switch.

I'm pretty sure it's DB driven so no. Else their infrastructure is beyond repair.
The 3DS and Wii U share the same servers. So unless you want the 3DS to be down as well. It would take a bit of work.

No? How normal communication works.
Since Dolphin even can access the Wii Shop now days, it's because it presents itself as a Wii.

Example:
WU - "Hello Server, I want access. I'm a Wii U."
NS - "Hi Wii U, you're welcome to access these options."
WU - "But I want to access Bravely Default so I can install it on my NAND"
NS - "You aren't a 3DS. Stick to your section."

It's extremely simplified. All consoles have a identification handle. So it's easy to just disconnect them from services.

Lol that's not how it works. You CAN access Wii U and 3DS stuff from each other's consoles and even buy stuff, put you just can't play it. The 3DS and Wii U networks are one and they both access the same server. VWii on Wii U doesn't allow it because it runs on a completely different one. Try booting up an online game on the Wii and see the error it gives you: (websitename) could not be found. That's because the eShop is basically a webpage that both the 3DS and Wii U access the same way, but are presented in different formats.

You wouldn't even have to turn off the servers to turn off one of the console sections. Essentially you would do the pc equivalent of deleting the Wii u folder and leaving the other folders there, if they properly set it up. They obviously would have it organised in some way by console, they wouldn't just toss all of them together in a giant mess.

Yes, I know you can do that. Notice I said "I want to install it on my NAND". The Shops are just website(s) with a nice gui. It's a whole different story once the games comes to play.

Correct, I just try to explain it for the two talking against me that it's impossible to just kill the Wii U off and keeping the 3DS section alive.

See my post above. Even if they use the same servers it shouldn't be hard at all to just drop support for one console.

They went the route of Microsoft. Did you know the 360 and the One run the same server base, too? Did you know that when one goes down, the other goes with it? Think about it. It's cheaper than trying to maintain two separate servers for both systems. What honestly makes you think Nintendo could afford a brand new server separate from the one they had before?

You can't shut one down without the other. It just doesn't work.

When the server goes down that both are running on yes both go down. But removing support for a console is very d different from the server simply going down.

Yes, and no. Still requires maintenance. Y'know? Downtime. Not unless Nintendo knows some tricks to do so.

Unless they decide to block access. Doesn't exactly remove it.. Also doesn't exactly free up bandwidth. Eh.

Nintendo said that Wii U and 3DS servers won't be shutdown in the future The reason why the Wii servers were shutdown was because Nintendo didn't own them
One year ago they said they weren't going to end Wii U production any time soon. More than a decade ago they said the DS was a third pillar. Etc.
The real thing is if they have a service that takes away revenue from their paid service they will either close it down or make it paid.
I guess they will just eliminate online gaming in the Wii U, like they already did with games like devils third eye. I don't think they will take away the eshop, just online gaming that is in competence with their paid service. It makes sense.

Lets say Wii U and Switch both have the same games. What would you recommend?

With the same library and cost aside the switch is a more flexible system having a smaller footprint and requiring less psu's not to mention portability.

Personally my wiiu is an upgrade from wii used mainly for homebrew and ninty emu's. If you take the wii out of U you've got a tiny handful of worthwhile exclusives.

My solution is not to pick a system over the other and just buy whatever ones have the games I want to play. As it stands once stripped down to exclusives neither system offers a decent sized library.

If you asked what home console to buy of the shelf it 2017 my answer would be PS4....

Of course you can.

Code:
if($_GET['console_id]'=='WiiU') {return "500 - Service Unavaliable";}

Basic pseudo code; obviously it's a little more complicated than that, but as @linuxares said, each console will identify itself to the server, and the server can provide an appropriate response based on the information provided at that point.[/code]

Thanks man. Like i said in the OP the game i want to play is BOTW lol so thats why im like this. I have a hacked regular Wii so those games are not a problem neither.

I had a PS4 but it broke so i dont want another one, i want to try something different (My Wii is the best console i have ever had, maybe nostalgia factor, so i want something in that direction).

Yeah, somebody else likes the fucking Wii. I am not alone in this forum for God's sake.

Again, I would recommend a Switch (but I already give my reasons in many posts before)
