The right JoyCon has what looks like a camera on the end of it. It can tell things like hand gestures, and even distance of objects from it. Whether that's meant to also be used as a pointer, we don't know, but if it can, then that's how it could handle touch-like stuff on the big screen.

I mean, doesw that mean there are feature in some game available in portable mode that arent in non-portable console?
I mean, there arent touchscreen on other controller, right?
It means all those cell-phone games can be ported over pretty easily. All those indie darlings on mobile, one would hope.

That and 3ds developers have been working with a touchscreen for a loooong time, so they'll feel comfy doing stuff for it. All those drawing games, mario party mini-games, etc, etc. It's just another input developers have access to (that 3rd party developers won't bother with because reasons).

I mean, really, who would buy any pokemon games for it if you could pet them anymore?

I do wonder how they'll handle tv vs handheld mode though. pointer as discostewSM suggested, or just convert to other control schemes.

I bet touchscreen will just be a forgotten feature only used in menus like how it was on the wii u.
Menus alone would justify its inclusion for me. Not strictly menus but I tried the disgaea game at the demo and moving a square selector around using the stick was a nightmare compared to touch screen stuff I got used to. Sure it more or less worked but compared to the more free form thing I am now used to, or a mouse, it was not good. Maybe a proper dpad would have helped but probably not a lot.

Also "that arent in non-portable console?" might be a problem if not every console came with the functionality. For me that was one of the great promises of kinect 2.0 when it came with everything and thus was a known variable for devs to play with.

It was "Disgaea 5 complete", or Disgaea 5 with all the DLC (it was a common theme there and from what I have seen elsewhere) and all the jaggies and badly aliased fonts you want.
Seems it will be the easiest way to get it portably in the near future but if it is going to be a one game system then I hope you like it.

In that case I don't know what it is like stateside but over here I noticed console rental was once again a thing for not the worst rates. Might be a better option for that sort of thing.

It's more of a wait and see sort of thing. There's really not much for either system I'm that interested in, but I really love the series, so it's complicated...

What would be really cool and entirely possible is if they used the right joycon to emulate the touchscreen by setting it on the table and recognizing gestures that happen behind it

were not using the word console any more it's dated from the 80's.
Also called game(s) console, gaming console, video-game console. a computer system specially made for playing video games by connecting it to a television or other display for video and sound.
this is dated and archaic and no longer applies in today's market. gaming DEVICE is more suited now :P
