Fire Emblem Nintendo Direct: Roundup

It's almost time for Nintendo to talk about their plans for the Fire Emblem series. The direct will feature Fire Emblem "titles", as in plural, so it's sure to be interesting. Stay tuned with GBAtemp, as there will be live coverage of the direct, which starts at 5pm ET, as well as a fact roundup after the video has ended.

 Watch it here!

It begins. Girl and boy talking to each other and a statue of a dragon. Duma and Mila, "sibling gods". World is called Valentia.

What sucks about mobile games like this is that one game already takes up all your "mobile game time". If you stop for a period of time, you will be left behind with weak units and are basically forced to pay to win or pay to get something good.
Oh man, I can't imagine payed units. Ughhh

implying that there is some kind of "meta" or way to be "left behind" in a mobile strategy game with natural level-up.

They mention you could earn orbs by doing quests or completing maps.

Imagine, on most of those mobile games, even if you pay it's not guaranteed that you get something good. You basically pay for a gacha (lottery) and most times you waste your money because the rates are so bad. Trust me, there are people who have paid hundreds of dollars for a chance to get a desired unit. That's why in japan those games are pretty common. Cheap to produce and makes lots of money for publishers.

there must be another premium currency there. Games with gacha, especially online, always have this.
It looked like you could just buy more orbs, which probably means
A. you won't get orbs very quickly through normal methods
B. odds of good units are going to be low
- although I guess both are pretty much a given for gacha games anyway.

Hyrule Warriors was a superb game well worth playing and it felt unique rather than being a copy of Dynasty Warriors. This... this looked generic and dull. I wish I was optimistic about it.
To be fair, there was only like 10 seconds of footage. The Fire Emblem series has a lot of weapon and magic types they can pull from to come up with movesets - if they were creative enough to do so for Hyrule Warriors, they'll certainly be able to do something with the massive Fire Emblem arsenal of characters and weapons.

Are both 3ds titles N3DS exclusives? :(

I don't get the OP at all. One is branded as "Brand new 3ds game" and the other "also plays on n3ds"...

All i can hope for now is iOS release soon on Heroes, and no always-online. This is nintendo's chance to show they're serious about mobile gaming, we can only hope they don't mess it up.

So happy to see so many characters from the GBA fire emblem games again. Also really happy about the Fire Emblem 2 remake.

One says "brand new 3DS game", which is exclusive to all 3DSes. It'd be brand new New 3DS game otherwise. The other one, Fire Emblem Warriors, is a previously announced Switch title, which is "coming to N(new)3DS as well".

So what you meant to say was that one of the games is o3ds/2DS compatible? If so, how is it called?

Nintendo just doesn't help themselves with stupid oxymorons like a new (new) 3ds game. (unless boxart is shown)

I still can't believe that, really hoping the n3ds port will be just as good as the Switch version.

I'm sure it'll be the same quality of Hyrule Warriors Legends, so...decent port, I guess?

it's awkward on Nintendo's part, yeah. 3DS games that work on everything--2DS, og 3DS, and New 3DS games are called plain "3DS" games. New 3DS exclusives are refered to as "New 3DS or N3DS" which is even more awkward, as people may interpret the "N" in N3DS as "nintendo". But to elaborate, Echoes is coming to all 3DSes, Warriors is limited to the New 3DS only.

I mean: "ZOMG i've just bought a new New 3ds console and it came bundled with a new New 3ds game like Xenoblade Chronicles!!"
(it gives me a headache to read that). Which is why i think using the word "new" to refer as a recently announced title can lead to confusions. Because nintendo can't get a clever naming system.

Good to know us 3rd world o3ds users get some love as well then. Thanks Chary!

Of all the things I might've expected from this direct, a Gaiden remake wasn't anywhere close. Some of the mechanics suggest they've been working on it for a while; I'm surprised they kept it under wraps this long.

The tiny grids for Heroes kills it for me. Other mobile games have already proven you can actually adapt Fire Emblem for smartphones, and even do microtransactions. There's no need to water down every franchise they bring over; making it accessible doesn't mean shit for sales if it's not fun.

It's designed to be played for short bursts, personally i like it. It might not be as complex and hard as other FE games, but it looks fun.

It is designed for you to go for the better experience on their console, not replace it.
