Sonic 'Live-Action and Animation Hybrid' Movie to be released in 2018

hqdefault.jpg

Sonic the Hedgehog has gone through a lot and the Blue Blur has a lot more coming apparently. In an interview with The Worldfolio, Sega president and CEO Hajime Satomi has revealed that a 'live-action and animation hybrid' movie featuring the famous blue hedgehog is in the works with Sony Pictures for a release in 2018.

Sega Sammy Group is currently planning with Sony Pictures to create a live-action and animation hybrid “Sonic the Hedgehog” movie scheduled for release in 2018. Like with this CG animation production, we would like to expand our business into other entertainment areas beyond what we are currently involved.

The recent Sonic Boom TV show proved to be quite successful and a second season should be on the way. However, with the 'live-action and animation hybrid' genre, what should we expect? In any case, we've got 2 years before seeing the Blue Blur on big screen and to learn more about it

I... suppose this was what the Sonic Twitter was hinting at the other day? And to push it off to Sony of all people, who's known for pumping out animated garbage. Doesn't SEGA understand they need to actually make some good Sonic games BEFORE they even attempt a movie? Live action mix, too? At best, we can hope the movie will be so terrible that it ends up being funny.

I hate Sonic. Hope they don´t do it. :c
"I personally don't like something, so I want to deny every single fan the satisfaction of a potentially good movie."

Come on, people. I'm not a fan of Sony's recent animation choices either (see Medusa and Popeye's cancellation), but at least wait for a trailer or some indication of what the movie will be about before immediately assuming it's terrible.

I don't get Sega's logic. They already had a chance to revive Sonic with great games like Colours and Generations. Their ridiculous belief that there's some magic formula yet undiscovered that will make Sonic the powerhouse he once was and financially equivalent to CoD is what holds them back. Sonic had his time in the sun. He's never going to be number one again, but making good money with high quality games the fans love isn't a bad place to be. If they keep pursuing this mythical golden goose formula all they'll do is piss off the few remaining fans with dross like Sonic 06, Boom, and...well, damn near anything from the last few years, to be honest. My advice, Sega? Get real, know your place, and stick to what Sonic does best; fast, 2D platforming.

As long as this upcoming movie is better than Super Mario Bros. was, this movie should be able to pass my "standards". I'm just hoping it's not based on Sonic Boom (even though I find the Sonic Boom cartoon is decent, but not as good as Sonic X), though.

So Sega, would you like a side of fries with your bankruptcy? Seriously, sometimes I feel like they're trying to kill themselves.
