I took apart my 3ds just the back and cleaned the shoulder buttons and after that the console boots but no picture just black screen. I hear the home menu song with and without sd card. i can acces lume and godmode9 menus but they still have black screen. im running the latest in everything. i tried everything: removing the camera ribbon, removing the ir sensor, wifi card, nothing. i wanted to do ctr but i cant because godmode is just black screen. i need help

edit: i can get into recory mode (i guess) but still no picture

What made you think you are accessing Luma3DS or GodMode9, if you can't see either of them?
All and all, sounds like a hardware issue.. If you can't get the screen to display anything then it's definitely the case.
Could be the backlight, if you're hearing sounds of the home menu and both the power & WiFi leds stay working..

Just a guess: Booting to Home Menu when holding nothing → Sound. Holding (Select) → No sound

If the problem occurred after messing with the hardware… yeah. Hardware issue.

Do not randomly disconnect stuff. The camera issue is exclusive to the new series with head tracking. WiFi card is 100% needed for a 3DS even to fully initialize the hardware. Nothing will work without. IR… no idea, but it shouldn't cause issues.

The shoulder buttons are easy to access without disconnecting anything else. So this is puzzling. Why should the problem occur when only messing with (L) and (R)? Even if those are missing, the 3DS will continue normally. Not essential hardware.

Reseat LCD ribbons.

I doubt that's how he knew..

If it's the backlight, i would suggest turning the system on in a very dim/dark room and see if you see anything on the display. if you see an image, then it's probably because of a blown (backlight) fuse.. Though i have no idea how that could have happened if the system was perfectly functional prior to the disassembly, and all you did was clean/reconnecting the shoulder buttons..

Had the same issues repairing old 3ds systems for a friend. either one of the screen ribbon cables are torn or not plugged in correctly (its painful to connect them properly because you still need to be careful). i believe the camera is fine since the old systems i think refuse to boot when there is no camera detected. might be the same with wifi chips or other "devices". i would suggest checking the connectors for both screens on the motherboard if something is loose and try to get the ribbon cable CAREFULLY deeper into the connector...

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:

still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
