Team Xecuter reveal info on upcoming Switch modchip

SwitchTX.jpg

Just over a week ago, team Xecuter announced that they are working on a soon-to-be-revealed modchip for the Nintendo Switch. This was big news because modchip devices are usually used to circumvent anti-piracy measures on many digital platforms, but mainly gaming systems, and to see one already in the works for a machine that is only 10 months old is very rare.

Since then the team have been quiet, no one knows what the device will look like, how it will work, or when they can get their hands on one - but GBAtemp can exclusively reveal today that there will be BOTH a solder AND solderless option of team Xecuter's Nintendo Switch modchip.

Here is a direct quote from team Xecuter:

For now, I can tell you there is a solder and solderless version. We have quite a lot in the works, you will have more info soon.

The difference in pricing should be interesting in the two versions of the device, but at least you can now rest safely, knowing that the team will be providing options for whatever the Xecuter Switch modchip turns out to be.

Stay tuned to GBAtemp for more info in the upcoming weeks.

There's 2 reasons:
- TX's solution will be portable, no need for a PC; with the open CFW you will be tethered to a PC for booting via USB (NOTE: unless you have an older exploitable FW ver)
- open CFW will still need a hardware piece to enter RCM (or you can open up your switch)

Wololo writes one of those Chinese retailers is going to take preorders soon. Anyone knows which one it is? I'm curious if I ordered there before. Planning on preordering if the price is somewhat reasonable.

That makes sense now, i saw something saying a usb C to A cable may be needed for particular firmwares.

There are some people that, in the end, would rather have a hardmod. I could see this still being beneficial if it also soldered onto NAND traces to allow for reflashing, as well, for brick protection
Yep and like I said before it may also be able to unbrick those huge amount of dead switches out there or bootloop problems, maybe re-flashing the nand, just maybe it could fix it, no idea...

Anyway if you take Nand chip out of the console it plays dead, it won't give any sign of life, so the dead switches might have corruption on the nand or a bad nand chip...

This is nonsense. Watch ktemkin's old stream and see for yourself it doesn't need anything post install (and no, the UART dongle doesn't count since it was just used for debugging). You are obviously advertising for TX at this point and everyone takes the bait.

Got a link? I'll be happy to point out if things are deliberately hidden...

Also think for a moment.. how will you 'install' F-G ?

Maybe eMMC adapter board? No, that would require additional hardware.
Maybe WiFi or joycon bluetooth? Nope, these things aren't really are enabled at bootrom.
Maybe microSD? Again nope, not enabled at bootrom.
There are not many other possibilities that make sense other than USB RCM. Because that is the sole thing enabled at early boot.. IF and only IF you are in RCM mode.

If you don't believe me read what Nvidia themselves say about the matter: https://http.download.nvidia.com/tegra-public-appnotes/tegra-boot-flow.html

So yeah.. good luck without USB-C cable...

To be fair, it's hard to know better when we have not so many informations.

edit: had to put it in code tags because it turns the link into [media] tags.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.
