i don't think the video mentioned more than one controller works but i did it personally for a good long while before posting this thread.
hopefully nintendo starts selling the adapters and controllers again i'd hate for everybody to have to buy those awful third party controllers.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

it was a bit hard to do.
i had to have both the black and the gray wire plugged into the front of the switch dock after i couldn't get it working in the normal press L+R screen i went to find my controllers it it detected them there, they worked the first time from there on out.

Hey that worked, thanks.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Someone needs to make a master list of switch games that work well with a GC controller.

Nintendo still have not made an acceptable replacement for their GC stuff so they have to string it along to this day? I would say shocking but it really is not. Didn't know GC controllers had risen so much in price though, saw a few going for what I thought was a lot in CEX one day but they take a punt and price most things higher than I tend to expect. Wonder what it would take to make a proper clone, or indeed a electrically compatible clone but a better shape.

I love how Nintendo addes these features and doesn't include it in their changelogs. Worst company ever.

If it is an undocumented feature it does not matter if it is broken, or only works on a select few games, or mysteriously vanishes one day. It is the cousin of under promise, over deliver. You can do something like the 360's original xbox backwards compatibility but then you end up doing lists and dealing with dramas and traumas and support.

Personally I don't think it's a bad thing the GameCube controllers are still supported today. People don't have to use them, however the option is there for those of us who own them. You can always spend £60 per Switch Pro controller to get some multiplayer gaming going... This could be a cheap way to get 4 friends playing around the TV for those of us who have kept their GameCube hardware around.

I own 4x GC controllers, I purchased an additional two for next to nothing when shops were selling GameCube stuff off back in the day. They work on the Cube, Wii, Wii U, Switch and PC. So a pretty nice investment.

So .... GC VC, right? Sunshine NEEDS analog triggers.

This could mean the adapters come back on sale, maybe even those not-quite-as-good-as-the-original controllers. But since Switch is also portable, if this is to facilitate virtual console, it could also mean (drumroll ... ) GCN joycons! :grog:

nah, that would be too frickin awesome for reality. never mind me. I'm dreamin'.

Nintendo knows that there is a certain group of fans that want to use old crusty GC controllers no matter what. Everything else is false.
GC controllers are OK, but they are overblown by nostalgic fans.
IMHO,
the switch pro controller is better in every way.
^This.

PS: for me this "hidden" feature of the update can only mean one thing, they are preparing for that hole between January-March,
I predict they will "surprisingly" release it between real new games, whenever there would be a "drought" otherwise.
So, perhaps March 2018?

And yes, it will be Super Smash Bros (4) Deluxe.
But considering the game already runs at 1080p 60FPS on the Wii U, I don't know what bells and whistles will the "Deluxe" part add... Perhaps some Adventure/Subspace emissary mode?

So this means no LZ, Plus, Minus and Home button. Do you know if the L and R analog triggers register immediately or only if pressed all the way down?
I'm not at home rn, but I believe it was when they were pressed all the way down.
When I get home I'll test it better tho

Let it be known that controller vibration must be turned on for this to work, even if you do not plan on using the grey USB. Had me stumped for a good while. Is rumble even supported?

EDIT
After some slight frustration, I got the adapter to work consistently. The settings "Controller Vibration" and "Pro Controller Wired Communication" do not matter. From the top menu, select "Controllers" then "Find Controllers".
Back out of that screen (or the notice if rumble is off) and select "Change Grip/Order".
Press L+R on the GC controller and it should work 100% of the time. This process does not need to be repeated after returning from sleep, but must be done again on restart.

This was my experience.
YMMV

Makes you wonder what they've got in plan. Also wondering if Mayflash will give us an update to their adapter. Hm. If not, I've still got Dolphin, so I'm not too worried. Would be nice to know for when I buy my next Switch.

This is more in response to the single post you made announcing the news. I can understand adding your opinion on the matter in the discussion, but sliding it in on the official reporting is suspect to me. GC controllers are one of the best Nintendo's made, and I can understand them stringing it along, hell they've done it 10 times as much with NES/SNES controllers. And they made the right choice bringing it back when Smash 4 came out because that is still the best controller for those particular games. And I love the Wii U Pro Controller and the Switch version looks pretty solid for my hands (note I haven't used it, I may be proven firsthand that it's better than GC, remains to be seen). I can understand too the prices being silly because of their high value, which births generic ones that sell for really cheap. I bought 2 third party knockoffs in 2014 for $20, and they work decently, but basically I got what I paid for.

This new feature definitely makes me more inclined to get a Switch.

In the original post it is supposed to be strikethrough (is on the actual post but apparently did not make it the portal) but needling and flamebait is how we roll around here.

Best they have made? In the analogue world I can see it (I have tried the others at this point, might just edge out the switch pro thing but I reckon I need a couple of hundred hours in on one before I make that kind of call rather than the hour or two I presently have). Best does not mean good though and even if it is the most workable design of theirs that speaks more to me about them dropping the ball for the last however many years from where I sit.

That said it might be time for money where my mouth is. I reckon with current programmable chips, easy PCB fab and easy CNC/3d printing I could put together a controller according to my whims similar to how people made arcade controllers in years past. Wonder if I can do a rubber overmould on the cheap...

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.
