So for the past few months I have been blocking nintendos update server through my modem with the following urls to block updates on my wii u and 3ds

nus.cdn.c.shop.nintendowifi.net
nus.cdn.shop.wii.com
nus.cdn.wup.shop.nintendo.net
nus.wup.shop.nintendo.net
nus.c.shop.nintendowifi.net
c.shop.nintendowifi.net
cbvc.cdn.nintendo.net
cbvc.nintendo.net

and out of nowhere today I am suddenly getting update notifications ect any ideas?

The most reliable method is to delete the 'update' folder from the Wii U NAND with FTPii U Everywhere. But if you don't want to potentially screw up your console, use the DNS! I have not received any notifs for update though. You may have made a typo when blocking the domains or your router messed up. Honestly though, just use the DNS.

I was never able to get the manual domains blocked using my router. I think there are more domains than what are listed in the guides. Someone who runs a DNS server should inform us of *ALL* of the domains that need to be blocked.

Those are all the domains that need to be blocked according to FlimFlam69's guide.

Those are all the domains that need to be blocked according to FlimFlam69's guide.
And it's been working for most people.

Like I said using, using those domains doesn't block updates. There are more domains that need to be blocked.

Blocking domains has proven again and again to be unreliable. You should delete the update folder on your NAND to be sure updates won't be downloaded.

However, deleting the update folder on your NAND won't stop update notifications if the Wii U has already downloaded the update. You need to clear the update already downloaded to your system.

the only problem with blocking domains is that u have to disable it to use nnu patcher since you're also blocking the eshop. I block domains via a proxy. no issues but that one. I'm blocking domains on the ps4 as well since that system's download and install automatically function is broken.

There's an app for that on the Homebrew App Store

Ah I see.

the dns is probably enough. I personally block all servers via a proxy. keep the dsn servers in tact in my dns section, but keep the proxy intact as well. that's my setup. I just have to disable the proxy, use nnu patcher, and access the eshop. proxy settings r saved, so it's not much of an issue unless u access the eshop a lot.

Still seems more of a headache imo.

it's not so bad. when u block urls, u also block the eshop itself. if u proxy this stuff yourself, u don't have to worry about the dns going down though. if it does, u can't access the internet. this way your connection is governed by your pc. if my laptop were off, I couldn't access the internet on the wii u though. my laptop is never off. I'm doing this through cc proxy which is pretty easy to use. I've grouped both wii u's I own on it, so both r blocking updates.

With cc proxy you can use wildcard (*) in the URL.
Edit:
This is how my black list txt file looks:
*.c.shop.nintendowifi.net;
*.cdn.shop.wii.com;
*.cdn.wup.shop.nintendo.net;
*.wup.shop.nintendo.net;
*.cdn.nintendo.net;

Works every time. Also cuts down on a number of URL.

yes, but u have to disable it to use nnu patcher. cc proxy is how I have mine setup. I have to disable it every time. keep the normal dns addresses, so u only have to disable the proxy. it's very easy.

not if you setup a static ip for the wii u/3ds and then tell your router to only block the url for that device. My router lets me block any url for4 any lan ip i choose . i can set a static as well as assign ip with reserved dhcp ips using mac addresses. that way other devices can use the urls cept the wii u/3ds. the ...block ip method never failed for me.

in ccProxy, I'm also blocking tagaya so I don't get update notification (not for console nor for games, as it doesn't even know there is one available) so I can run games without updating them.
But I rarely enable network connection, so the proxy is a good way to ensure everything is fully offline as long as I don't launch it manually.

I also made different URL filtering profile, one fully blocking, others not blocking tagaya, other not blocking eshop access for nnu, etc.
I probably give myself more work, but that's fine as I rarely need the network.

    @Xdqwerty No you heard wrong, and don't believe till you experience yourself. Fallout 4 is one of my favorite games of all time. Yes it had issues early on, esp with older hardware like the xbox1, but it is awesome, esp now being 4k on Series S/X or PS5

    @BigOnYa, Then i think people were talking about fallout 76
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    that one was buggy too
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    Yea you right there, fallout 76 was a letdown, but it not that bad now, they have fixed slot of issues they had at launch. Biggest issue with Fallout 76 is its a pay to advance further type of game, which sucks
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    @BigOnYa, I may probably download fallout 3 or new vegas on my ps3
