Why do you want to skip updating? With a9lh, it's safe to update your sysNAND. If you want to make an emuNAND, a9lh lets you do that even on the latest system version. Just download the latest release of EmuNAND9, put the .bin file in the luma/payloads folder, rename it to something like y_Emu9.bin. When you have a9lh set up, boot into emuNAND9 by pressing and holding Y when you boot your system and follow the menus to create an emuNAND9. Don't forget to unlink your NANDs.

There is no chance of a brick leaving a system un-updated, but why do you not want to update?

Thank you for your reply. I am aware that updating sysNAND on a9lh is considered safe, but I plan to leave it at 9.2 because it has alternate entry points on the off chance that I somehow lose a9lh. I know it's quite unlikely to happen by accident but a lot of kids mess with my consoles and in general I'm a very unlucky fellow. Also, I'm migrating from menuhax after almost a year, so I'm a bit paranoid about doing anything on sysNAND. emuNAND seems cleaner, and space/speed is not an issue (64gb class 10). I plan on updating emuNAND to latest firmware.

So, I would not have to do anything different in the steps latter to the update skip? I will use hourglass to create emuNAND, unlink, and set luma config to autoboot emuNAND.

Just go through the steps and don't update, however, to inject FBI into your Health&Safety (as the guide will walk you through that), you WILL need to be on 11.2. Hourglass9 does not create an emuNAND. Hourglass9 is a dummied down version of Decrypt9. Only EmuNAND9 creates emuNANDs.

Would you suggest updating sysNAND all the way, then create emuNAND, then downgrade sysNAND to 9.2 is a simpler approach?

That might be the easiest approach, but I don't think you'll have FBI in your Health&Safety app after the downgrade. If you don't care about that, then don't worry about it. The best part is that you can easily downgrade with a9lh, so you don't have to do the DSiware downgrade method or get a hardmod. Just make sure you're downgrading sysNAND (meaning you need to enable Autoboot SysNAND to boot into sysNAND) and not emuNAND.

Just be warned that any and all GBA/DSiware games WILL need to be installed to both NANDs for them to work in emuNAND.

No, that's the R4i Gold 3DS RTS. I know because I have one of those myself.
lm at 9.6 right now, but I certainly want to patch my games right?
Im going for a arm9 then updating everything. Using sky3ds+ as mentioned earlier.

Or should you skip updating the games? What is adviceable?

Yes you want to patch your games. If you do go for a9lh, you should really think about getting rid of your Sky3DS+ as it won't be needed anymore and you can install games as CIAs to your Home Menu. You should always update your games, unless said game contains an exploit for getting Homebrew, such as steelhax.

No it's not. Check the guide again. You can practically use any DSiware game now.

Really? But how? Those two were stable downgrade games I thought. Won't the others require more work to get onto the target 3ds?

Also bare in mind I am assuming the n3dsxl is 11.0 not that it helps lol

Like I said, check the guide again. There's a whole list of games you can use.

No need. There's a guide on the page you download Freakyhax. Here it is: https://plutooo.github.io/freakyhax
