I will need to update to 9.2 now?
Did you actually read the guide? Since you are on 1.0.0-0, you need to do a cart update before you do anything else.

With 11.2 out now.. is it safe to update through System Settings if you're on Luma?
Yes, make sure you are on the latest version of Luma then update. Do not use nightlies.

Yes, 9.2.0-20 is the ideal firmware version to be on. I haven't tried the "legit trick", but you really should just buy it. It's a $5 game.

Is it okay to update once you reach the "Move EmuNAND" part of Plailect's A9LH guide, since there is now an 11.2 update?

Also, I cannot seem to get out of the HBL menu.
Every time the 3DS starts it goes to there, and there is no Luma3DS option in the HBL menu.

trying to get my old town i lost ages ago back. i was told to downgrade my browser. which im doing as soon as i make sure of the details

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

oh and idk what ya mean by create emuNAND an downgrade. im on a9lh with lumas. i dont see why id need to downgrade to use something to get my old town back via dream address on acnl. pls explain
It will be more complicated to downgrade your browser on its own, plus you are likely to break stuff. You may find something in the future just won't work and nobody helping you is going to think of asking you whether you downgraded your browser because that's such a weird thing to do.

So, with the new firmware that just came out I was reading up on if it was safe to update, and I saw several mentions to make sure you are using the latest Luma3DS Stable and not nightly.

Well, my Luma3DS even stable was out of date, so I updated to the latest stable version of 6.3.1.7, and now I am confused.

The old version of Plailect's guide I followed mentioned to enable the options "SysNAND is updated" and "Force A9LH detection". These options are no longer there, and there are new options that the version version of the guide does not mention:
https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/Installing-arm9loaderhax

It only mentions:
  • "Autoboot SysNAND"
  • "Use SysNAND FIRM if booting with R (A9LH)"
  • "Show NAND or user string in System Settings"
  • "Show GBA boot screen in patched AGB_FIRM"

Are these other two options no longer needed? I just want to make sure I don't accidentally enable (or not enable) something that could cause this update to actually update my FIRM and get me stuck on a non-hackable 3DS.

I can tell by the names what most of these four options do (though I am not sure what the point of booting SysNANMD FIRM by holding R is) but nothing seems to indicate any sort of update protection, unless that is something hard-coded that you cannot disable? (Or is that what this last option, "Patch SVC/service/archive/ARM9 access" is?).

Basically, what options do I have to choose (or make sure NOT to choose) to safely update on Luma3DS 6.3.1?

Non-dev Luma will not let you break your console by updating so don't worry :-) (maybe dev Luma stops you as well). Worst that can happen is maybe you get a black screen on boot which you could fix by deleting the config so you can reselect options.

It's not bricking my console I am worried about (well, I guess that too now that you brought it up... but that's a different issue), I just wanted to know if the protection so I can install an official update without it disabling A9LH/overwriting FRIM is hard-coded and thus I can't accidentally disable it through any of these options. Because I want to install 11.1.0-35 update that was just released and I realized my Luma3DS was pretty out of date so I updated it, and there are different options now from what I had before.

That's what I meant.

I have a O3DS on 11.2.0-35U with A9LH.
I have a N3DSXL on the same firmware, but no hax.

My question is, can I downgrade the XL without a hardmod. Or is that still being figured out?
If so, what steps would I need to take to make that happen?
Thanks in advance.

Any ideas what the issue can be?

  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
