What is harvest moon about? is it a farming simulation or dating simulation, or general simulation like the sims series?
Both farming and dating simulation. Harvest Moon DS needed pretty badass faqs to be read, if you wanted everything... (still have stuff unfinished there, and played since the launch...)
Could seem like for noobs, but just the farming mechanics are complicated if you want to maximize the crops you get.

Wait, isn't this one of those new knock-off Harvest Moons?

Natsume retained the name and started churning out bad games using the super popular old license, the REAL HMs are still coming out, but they're named Story of Seasons now.

The last true HM was A New Beginning. Haven't played The Lost Valley yet, but the reviews for it are abysmal so I'm not sure what to expect from this one. I'll probably stick to the original titles.

from what I played on SNES it's nothing like sims. you control the character and you have to fish, plant crop, water them etc etc. it's a lot like "stardew valley" for PC in my opinion. not just farming there's more to do.

Man this was what I was thinking when I saw it. Natsume need to just let the name die, they're dragging it through the mud. Story of Seasons however is fantastic, and I hope they continue to be fantastic.

Lost Valley mechanics are like the ones from original HM series, you must "awake" the spirits and regain the power of the Godess.
Story of Seasons have changed this, the spirits are somekind there, but they don't help you with the farm, like they used to; you don't regain godess powers, you are dedicated to the crops and the market; and regaining energy is a bit more complicated, but it's fun in his way.

I disagree sorry. what i'd like to see is another Legend of River King/River King title. I love those games.

Personally, as someone who loved the HM series, I played the "new" Story of Seasons and I like it, but I find out that I seriously do not have the patience to deal with the game in full....

Don't fund it, Natsume are butchering the series. Stick to "Story of Seasons" games.

Oh, Harvest Moon....I remember reading about the original SNES version in Nintendo Power..it was like 1/6 of a page, couple of screens and maybe 4 paragraphs of text talking about this unusual game that took a different approach than any other game....

I was out a video rental store a couple of months later and saw it sitting on the shelf... My brother & I were only allowed to rent 1 game each. I decided, rather hesitantly, on getting Harvest Moon thinking it resembled the RPG games I like so much and thought maybe the farming was more of a side thing....

So I got it home and started playing it. No real RPG elements....you could go chat up the local villagers if you wanted, and you could farm...

SEVERAL HOURS LATER....My field was completely cleared, I had crops growing in waves so I was harvesting nearly every day...it was amazingly addictive for such a "simple" game. I loved that the clock stopped at 5pm and that there was no penalty for overworking yourself other than not being able to work anymore.

They "fixed" these 2 things in all future versions of the game, which I found kind of sad, but meh..that's what cheats are for. :D

I haven't played any of the 3DS titles, yet, but was planning on starting on either Story of Seasons or a New Beginning sometime soon!

From what I've seen of The Lost Valley, I don't hold much hope for this new release.

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
    +1
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
