Hacking New to the whole 3ds scene, some help would be appreciated.

Happened to me, too. How many times have you tried? Are you using the correct URL? Because there are different URLs in the Guide. Did you put everything you need on the SD card? Did you put it back in correctly after booting?

Also, I would recommend backing up all of your data (SD card data, StreetPass data, game saves if you have some eShop games) and format your N3DS using TinyFormat (a homebrew app). This will avoid having a softbrick upon downgrading to 9.2.

How is he going to be able to back up Streetpass without already having CFW?

I had the exact same problem when I first did mine. Downgrade from 9.8, crash in the middle of downgrade, booting w/o sd card, you just have to keep trying with it.

If you have a cart game you can update using that to have a clean firmware to work with, I used Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon to go to 9.9 and then downgrade from there. If you want to try that though, be careful, some carts don't have browsers with their firmware (including pokemon super mystery dungeon, but I'm lucky enough to already own Ocarina of Time and had my O3DS with CFW to work with). Check that out ahead of time.

First set your home menu to "No Theme" even if it might already be set to that. O3DS is pretty bad with browserhax: You just have to keep trying, and once you're in Homebrew Launcher, set up Menuhax (Install, Config Haxx->Type 2->Hold L while touching the bottom screen, then reboot after all of that is done). Then, use menuhax to run PlaiSysUpdater.

Unless you're getting a red screen. In which that case, you should make sure you have SD:/3ds/ and SD:/boot.3dsx on your SD card: You can get those from starter.zip

So... do i continue with the guide or do i have to do something else cuz something is weird here, im on 9.2 but i shouldnt be?

The fact that you can't boot without taking out the SD card means that you have a frankenstein firmware (frankenfirmware), where not everything downgraded properly: You still need to get back in HBL and attempt another downgrade.

However, browserhax is a big pain on O3DS, so you should set up menuhax so you can keep rebooting in case PlaiSysUpdater fails to hax init.

When the downgrader crashes like that, the system settings may show 9.2 (like mine did), but it won't be a complete firmware. You need to re-run the downgrader to make sure it's complete, or update and downgrade again. Do not update through the internet.

Install type doesn't matter that much, it just changes whether you do hold to get into menuhax or hold to not get into menuhax, type 2 lets you go direct to menuhax without pressing anything.

Hello, first off i have a n3ds xl euro on 9.8 firmware, i saw that theres ways to downgrade to 9.2 and theres alot of custom firmwares but i dont want to risk it, especially since its a n3ds and those apparently can get bricked with ease. Anyway i saw that gateway is about to release their new update for up to w/e firmware it is that can be downgraded and was wondering if i should get a sky3ds+ or a gateway 3ds? or maybe something else? Thank you for your time.

if you want plug and play then sky3ds is for you but if you want GW then downrade to 9.20 and setup your emunand and updates to the latest and install all cia that you want. GW is still kicking because of 2 things 1.is extra storage for game (rom). 2.game cheat.
If you really want flashcart then go to GW but if you want a free best CFW then go with a9lh

i did as crispyyoshi said, type 2, hold L and touch the touchscreen. when i boot it up i tried without touching anything and while holding L, no go.
