Hi guys, I've just ordered a new PSTV from ozgameshop, which should be arriving in a few days. I'm hoping you might be able to answer a few questions that I can't find the answer to. If they have been answered before, I'm sorry.

1. What firmware do new PSTVs ship with? I'm not sure if there are different production waves or not, but this is the one I ordered http://www.ozgameshop.com/playstation-vita-accessories/sony-playstation-tv-eu-plug

2. What is the best firmware to be on? I don't care too much about homebrew, but I would like to do the whitelist exploit to play most Vita games, and I would also like to run PSP backups if possible.

3. If the firmware is below what is recommended, can I update to the recommended one like in the PSP days, or am I forced to update to the latest version?

4. I see the bubbles exploit tutorial here says any PSP game/demo can be used, which I have from my PSP days, but am I able to access the PSN store on a lower firmware by using Vita Update Blocker to download the PSP game?

5. Apparently the PSTV needs a PS3 to activate if I don't want to update the PSTV, which I don't have. Am I able to do the email exploits without activating to fix the whitelist, then update to 3.55 to install eCFW?

Thank you so much for the help!

1. I got mine at 3.20 firmware.
2. 3.52 and lower for homebrew use. There's also JP/USA save exploit for 3.53 too. (I think)
3. If you want to use Playstation Store and other online services or use your memory card that's been activated on Vita, you'll be forced to update.
4. Dunno really know about this, but search some more info at wololo(dot)net.

Thanks for the answers. Am I able to perform the whitelist exploit and play cartridge based PS Vita games without activating my system?

I think you can play cartridge games just fine but then you'll need new account and a memory card for PSTV use only. If I remember right, it asked me to activate the account to the system when I tried to use my default PSN account.

I'm not sure about how whitelist is affecting to updates, but at least non of my cartridge based games haven't even asked me to update. That could be because of I've updated both Vita and PSTV to newest update when there's been some good offers at Playstation Store.

i used to go out to the recycling center every couple weeks and look at the crts and other electronics people would drop off. Usually screens were broken or severely scratched from being tossed around. Did find a good one here and there, but never anything like a 1080i widescreen crt.

Is it piracy if it was released for free? Not in my opinion, but I also think it's not piracy if buying it isn't owning it, and it's not piracy if you can't buy it from the original creators anymore.
