Don't count on it. Just expect decrypted roms to be the norm in the (illegal) places you'd find them. Personally I buy all my games but never bother ripping them.

The devs' priorities seem to be functionality and accuracy over playability atm as well. Playability can come later anyway, it's less morally conflicting emulating dated hardware I guess.
I would buy it too but as someone stole my 3ds I wont and seccondly when emulator reach what you can say "stable" they then provide graphic amelioration that make it better than playing on the console
(ex:I play my wii games on PC because it have better graphics even If I have a wii)

the wii is a very special case with its emulator tho. it's not like that's the standard for every emulator. just look at gba emulators or DS emulators for an instance. it's not like their graphics improved all that much. Sure you can make the image bigger. But you can hardly call that an improvement.

I wouldn't say that. GBA games are 2D so the best you can do is apply filters to them. But in the case of...well, any 3D gaming console, the 3DS included, upscaling is a possibility and will improve visual quality. Sure, the 2D in these games will be stretched and whathaveyou, but the Wii isn't so much a special case as it is the norm for 3D consoles with working emulators. This is the case from from Project 64 to PCSX2. Hell, even 2D console emulators have this, it's just not used to the same effect.

Yeah, I agree with you on that. It's just that there's a limit on what's possible to do. We shouldn't compare an home console with a portable console. There might be room for improvement but we shouldn't expect to see ultra fancy graphics just because we're using an emulator on a machine x times more powerful than the native one. And considering how currently Citra still is in development and how it still needs to improve a lot, thinking about graphics improvement shouldn't come right away.

I answered his question indirectly by deducing that his intent is playing 3DS games. Citra is not intended to be a replacement for an actual 3DS dumping setup, or even a workaround for not having to buy any games. Even if people like to abuse it as such, Citra is not usable for this purpose currently (luckily), nor will it be in the foreseeable future.

So yeah, whether you like to hear it or not, the ultimate answer to the question is "buy a 3DS".

In the future too, actually.
How do you balance making an accurate emulator with not wanting to enable piracy?
Seems like the progress Citra indicates most members of citra side with the former. You can't have both.

Uhm, none of the Citra devs are developing the emulator for enabling piracy. Also note that enabling piracy as a side effect doesn't change anything about the development goal or intended use of the emulator. Ultimately none of that changes anything about the actual (lack of) usefulness of Citra for playing games enjoyably either.

Love this reply, I bet you will give the same reply to anyone in the future who thinks citra will play encrypted roms.

I totally should just set up a bot to auto-reply each time it finds the terms "Citra", "play", and "encrypted rom" in a post :P

I'd love to dump some of my carts and decrypt them to give them a shot on Citra, but my laptop wouldn't be nearly powerful enough to run Citra and any game at even a remotely decent speed. I do look forward to advancements in this, as I do plan to build a PC down the road that can actually run something worth a crap.

Any hints?
poorly forged cia files, xorpads, etc xD
biggest wage are the poorly forged cia files ;)

what are your specs? the only big issue here is the lack of a recompiler or something more powerful than an interpreter. software renderer part was already taken care of by some good ol' opengl :)

there is 5-10 decrypted roms over the internet, don't waste time. you should search for .cia files, then convert it to .3ds (.cia roms)

lol. I'm sure pretty much any game out there exists in decrypted format. That being said, there's not a lot that's actually currently usable, so if your intentions are actually PLAYING a game on citra, you'd be better served by waiting at least a few months before attempting this.

I think, the way to dramatically speed up the emulator - make frame_skip real skipping calculation of frames
The project isn't mature yet, to enjoy good speeds. Although adding the hw render boosts up the speed a lot, that only takes care of the gpu aspect. It is still running on an interpreter( dyncom) and I haven't seen any branch working on a recompiler. Memory management needs a lot of work and most games can't boot up. Finally, the dsp isn't implemented, and it will have a huge impact on speed when it is implemented. Frameskip isn't ideal, esp when the project isn't accurate enough. If you still wnt to more speed now, try tfarley's hd ogl branch, it has major improvements on the gpu side but you will need to build it yourselves.
