Taikojiiro (Taiko no Tatsujin) << Best one, I like this one soooo much, the taiko mode here is better than the taiko mode in osu! (tho it has only local multiplayer)
Osu! (EBA / Ouendan )
Lunatic Rave 2 (BEATMania IIDX PC)
Stepmania (Dance Dance Revolution)
K-Shoot Mania (SoundVoltex aka SDVX)
O2Mania (O2Jam)

All of the above are rhythm game for pc based and have either a built in or separate beatmap / notechart creator so you can make your own maps if you ever feel like it.
If you click on the name of the game it should redirect you to a YouTube video with some pretty hard maps (just to see what you could possibly one day be playing like).
These are the ones I personally know and have played, if there are others I'd like to know too :D

I used to play O2Jam but the server has been closed. Is there any new server?

Not as far as I'm aware off, there are certain low populated servers floating around (5-10 players online), nothing big.
I see. Well I will have to download O2mania and some song packs, If you have some info about this PM me :)

There's a torrent floating around the internet not sure if it's legal to post here, the game is free I think since it's a fanmade game so linking to the torrent shouldn't be illegal?? IDK, easy way is to just google it out and add torrent at the end, should be the first result.

Lunatic Rave is excellent. Don't be scared off by videos of stupidly hard songs, there's enough easier ones too.

Yes, there's a total of 5 taiko no tatsujin wii games, all japan exclusives, so if you can import them you'll still have to hack your wii for region free disc loading (unless you got a hacked wii, then you can boot them from a usb loader).

Arras nailed it, for anything taiko related visit TaikoTime, the blog is constantly updated with the newest taiko no tatsujin related stuff (arcade news, console games, dlc...).

I've only played guitar hero and OSU! on PC. There are some good games on Nintendo DS, 3DS and PSP though.

Why are you recommending part 2 without recommending part 1? First game wasn't a rhythm game?

Well first and most obvious issue is that they actually haven't ported first part, so you are going to need an emulator instead of buying native port. First part is also pretty much worse in every aspect, some parts are almost identical to second game, it's not needed that much plot vice and it uses videos with enviroments instead of 3D models, meaning playing game with 4:3 aspect ratio compressed video on modern HD monitor doesn't look that great at all.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though

    I appreciate the insight!
