I'm using an internal SD Reader. Don't know how good it actually is.
how long is the SD-usb adapter (the cable not the card reader )
also as i said before as long as its working dont worry too much :lol:final note is, if its in a laptop the SD readers are fairly decent quality, its really just the lil cheapo Chinese usb ones that can be a bit shoddy

The cable is approx 20 cm. But I guess you are right, as long as it works it's ok. 5 - 10 minutes is that bad ;-)

Man, you guys get some crazy speeds.

Mine's generally 0.9 for reading and 0.8 for writing. Takes about 20min per dump. Probably just a slow card reader, can't do much about that I guess.

have you lost the little locking tab on the SD adapter?
also try rebooting windows
Nope. And I'm just trying to get a read so the write lock tab shouldn't affect anything.

Also, it takes a little bit for the device to show up in windows. Probably 30 seconds to a minute before it shows up in w32diskimager.

The normal 3DS really don't have enough love, everyone is modding the XL :P
Check this out. Same concept as the USB adapter, but I found the JST-XH 3S fits better, and can be hidden by the battery cover.

It could be the soldering on the USB or the SD adapter itself, too.

After seeing the USB mod, could the 3ds be charged with that method without damaging the 3DS?

Maybe by directing an additional wire to the charging ports.

possibly, it would need all 5 wires that the usb port offers...plus a usb cable with the 5th pin connected so the nand mod would run without using the 5v wire that chargers/usb cables use, but for the XL in particular i don't think the USB port would be secure enough for charging ....the port would be likely to work itself loose after a while with the usual tugging that chargers get

From what I saw with the mod, would I be able to use a glue gun to keep the charge port in place, to prevent the charging, or does the glue interfere with the dumping and writing?

yeah i know its glued into place but usually the shell would be soldered to a pcb to give it support/structure, the usb mod is good for nand dumping/rewriting but i really don't think it would have the support for any long term charging use, especially if it receives a few tugs while its plugged in.......possibly if you use epoxy or something that sets harder than hot glue you might be able to do it.....but still its not perfect

Thanks for the help, I'll just try to mod the regular charge port to a USB one. The reason I was asking is because I was given an old 3ds with a missing charge port and I won't always have access to the third party charge base I'm using.

If my 3DS was 4.5 I'd want to know how that mod was done, it looks awesome. and discreet.

How much harder is it to do the mod on a regular 3ds as opposed to the easier XL one?
