This thread is for anything relating to Nintendo 64 Emulation for 3DS

Do you think it is Possible

Seeing as though we don't know the Official Specifications of the 3DS it is Unknown at this point

I believe it's possible that the 3DS can emulate some but not all N64 games the reason I believe the 3DS can emulate the N64 is because the 3DS hasn't been truly hacked yet so we don't know if it's possible or not.I wouldn't be surprised if the 3DS surpassed the PSP/vita in power when it comes to emulation when it's hacked everyone says the is bad at emulation but that's not true.

The funny thing is that we know for the most part what the specs are. Clocks officially seem to elude me when I search for a absolute source for them, however evidence points to a ARM dual core/ dual CPU system that is probably ARM 11. We know it has the PICA, and RAM was revealed via tear downs.

Edit: 3D Brew seems to say they official documentation on the CPU specs on their website. They aren't citing a link... I have a feeling they have some documentation that isn't available to the public. A development 3DS (panda unit) may have given them all they needed.

I don't believe that 3DS will be able to emulate too well. I expect it will be slightly better than the PSP, but I expect that due to the n64's RISC based 64 bit CPU it will still be quite lacking. GBA and SNES will be great, especially compared to the DS and the dsTwo. the PICa will help, but I'm not sure if it will be enough.

No. PS1, N64 and PSP use MIPS CPU. So it's easier to emulate them on PSP. 3DS has ARM processor. And it's low clocked ARMv6. ePSXe team said ARMv6 was not enough for ePSXe on Android for good framerates.

My first try at getting N64 games on the 3DS would be to look at Ocarina of Time for the 3DS. If the developers ripped apart the ROM into easier to read pieces, I would try to see if I could rip apart other ROMs in a similar fashion and try to replace the pieces in OoT with new pieces of the new ROM.

It would probably be much easier to reverse-engineer OoT if the ROM itself was modified and there was an emulation top layer, but it sounds too good/ very unlikely to be true.

If there is ever a Nintendo 64 game released on the virtual console for the 3DS, that might be more a more realistic target for reverse-engineering. The main reason I am thinking of reverse-engineering instead of starting from scratch, is because I'm much better at editing code than writing it...I understand how to edit most programming languages, but I can only write in C properly.(it's actually very easy to edit almost any programming language after learning one, for me anyways)

(if anyone is wondering, I own 60 N64 cartridges ranging from Power Rangers to Quest64, including the Zelda games)
