Disclaimer

If you don't intend to use this patch and only want to comment for trolling purposes, don't bother. The world doesn't need any more clowns. You're not special.

While this isn't a full retranslation like my Xenoblade 2 project, it focuses on preserving the authentic Japanese elements that were altered during localization.

Core Philosophy

The fundamental goal of this patch is authenticity to the original Japanese version without compromising cultural elements for the sake of "Western accessibility." This isn't about making the game more "digestible" for the average player - the official localization already serves that purpose. Instead, this patch aims to preserve the original intent of character naming and terminology that was significantly altered in the Western release.

Current Progress

So far, I have completed (including DLCs):
  • All character names restored to their original Japanese versions. In addition to changes in the names of the main characters, basically all NPCs had their names changed. Most of these changes are ridiculous. like Adolf -> Andreas, Fritz -> Moritz, Vandham -> Vangarre, Louise -> Lesunia, Veronica -> Vronik or Orpheus -> Orkatix
  • The attack names have been restored to the original ones, however, in this Xenoblade game, most of the names of the attacks were left original
  • Standardized the terminology used in both games - Xenoblade 2 and Xenoblade 3 (Bonding Talk etc)
List of other notable changes:
  • Mechonis -> Machine God
  • Metal Face -> Black Face
  • Bionis - > Giant God
  • Xord -> Zord

Before you start complaining because you are used to localized terms - I remind you that this patch restores the original names and your nostalgia has nothing to do here.

Planned Restorations

  • If anyone gives other examples of what has been changed, I will be happy to incorporate them into my patch.

Installation

Install it as any other mod.

Community Input Requested

Oh, and btw, thanks again to roccodev, for both - bdat packer/unpacker.

I am actually interested in the Mechonis change alone the most. Machine God feels off for a name that is said quite a bit Would the Romanization be better as "Kishin"? The Bionis being the same Situation with "Kyoshin". They feel more like Titles, Kyoshin the Giant God and Kishin the Machine God. But other wise the restores all seem to flow fine. Names are Probably the Only things Literal Translations don't exactly work in English.. well that and puns but that is one of those unholy issues nothing can ever fix them.

I was also thinking about it, but maybe let others comment on it as well. For now, I will leave it like this.

Thanks for making these mods! I really enjoy and appreciate your work, especially on Xenoblade 2.

I have one request though: Could you make a version where Fiorung is still called Fiora like in the localized version? That's the only name I prefer in the Western one.

Alternatively if you don't wanna do that: Could you tell me how to change that name back myself, if possible?

Lion, you could likely just use the BDAT translation tool and the converter tool to take the patched bdats, do a batch replacement on 'Fiorung' in the generated json files to make each instance 'Fiora' then and repack all of the files using the converter again. That should - in theory - do what you need and probably take all of 10 minutes. Should be doable without the OP needing to maintain separate versions... and while you'd need to do this each time an update happens, it'd be 'quick'.

Leaving the process to use the mods on Switch here for easier access
2 Methods to do so

Method 1
-Download the zip file
-extract the contents anywhere you like
-it will leave you with a folder named Xenoblade 1 Unburguer, inside, there's a romfs folder
-copy the folder, then paste in on atmospher -> contents -> 0100FF500E34A000 folder
-0100FF500E34A000 folder its where you should paste the romfs folder extracted from the zip file

Methoid 2 (SimpleModManager)
-Download the zip file
-extract the contents anywhere you like
-it will leave you with a folder named Xenoblade 1 Unburguer
-on the root of your SDCard, you should create a folder named mods
-inside that folder, create one with the name of the game in question (Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition in this case)
-inside that folder, you can create one with the name of the mod that will be used (Xenoblade DE Unburguer in this case)
-create a contents folder inside
-create a folder with the game's Title ID inside the contents folder (0100FF500E34A000)
-the romfs folder from Xenoblade DE Unburguer should go inside this folder
-Launch SimpleModManage, and you can enable or disable this mods as you like
